Thompson Barn

The Thompson Barn was the perfect place to have our wedding reception. It was easy to organize things with the city of Lenexa. The plans we did with them was perfectly coordinated. The concierge on the day of helped a lot and we were always treated nicely. We totally recommend having your weeding there. AND, it is just a beautiful and elegant place. You don't need many decorations to make it look good. We loved the place since the first day we saw it.

The Thompson Barn was so easy to work with! We wanted access to the venue multiple times prior to our event, and if they have a staff member available, and the barn was available, they were happy to accommodate our requests. The day of the event, everything was set up exactly as we requested prior to our reservation start time. Also, the A/V equipment is included in the rental, and is SO EASY to use!!!

Absolutely perfect venue. Staff is great to work with ahead of time and also the day of the wedding. You get to bring in your own vendors which saved us tons of money over other venues. The only con is you somewhat have to do everything yourself and if you are having a ceremony and reception both there you have to flip the room yourselves (it took us 15 minutes to flip for 200 people). Would totally have our wedding here again and again!

When my now-husband and I took a tour at Thompson Barn, I just knew this place was THE place for our wedding. Affordable price (discounted price available for Lenexa resident, FYI!!!), beautiful architecture, very modern, and nice staff to work with! My wedding was very small (less than 100 people attended) so if you want a small venue, but don't want to pay a fortune - this is the venue for you! Couple of things I want to mention if you're thinking about booking this place. They don't do rehearsal the night before (you would have to rent the barn, minimum of 4 hours) so I ended up skipping that and straight to do dinner at a restaurant with the wedding party and family members. I would advise that you either hire a wedding coordinator and/or have a dedicated team to do the decoration on the day of the wedding. The venue staff will set up the basics (chairs, tables, mics, and other amenities they provide) but things like linens, ribbons, flowers, extra lights, and wedding decorations you will have to do it yourself. (You also have to do the breakdown after the wedding) I ended up doing both the ceremony and reception inside the main hall. (I was afraid of the summer shower rains if I went with the outdoor ceremony...which I did hear horror stories from my wedding coordinator) My coordinator came to the barn at 8am to start the decoration process and she was done way before noon. Other wedding vendors got to the venue with no problem and set up their stuff. Very smooth process. If you're looking for places to take your first look or wedding pictures in general, the outside had this cute little vintage Victorian house right next to the barn and so much natural green and beautiful flowers surrounded - I loved how my wedding photos turned out! The staff at the venue was very nice and answered all of our questions! During the day of my wedding, the on-site staff actually gave me a complimentary macaroons as a congratulations. She was so nice, haha. All in all, this was the perfect venue for my wedding. 100% recommend Thompson Barn!!

I can't say enough about Thompson Barn. It's usual for inexpensive venues to have an inexpensive look, but the whole property was stunning! The people were great & easy to work with, but most of all the Victorian House and the redone barn made me feel like I was in a movie, yet I also felt really relaxed. We didn't have to do much with decor because it was naturally aesthetically pleasing & my photographer said it was one of her favorite spots to shoot! It was the most beautiful venue & it made our day even more special!

Beautiful space, affordable price and the staff is easy to work with. Such a wonderful venue for our wedding.

We got married at Thompson Barn 12/10/2016, we had both the ceremony and reception there. They did a fantastic job setting the venue up just the way we wanted it, and when we needed more tables they were on top of it. The space is a very beautiful space and does not need much decorating. Everyone complemented us on how beautiful the venue was. It was the perfect size for our smaller wedding with 120 guests. The magnetic wall downstairs makes for some awesome decorating ideas. The stairs are beautiful and it was fun to incorporate them into the ceremony and picture taking. Overall the staff was wonderful and we really enjoyed our time there.

I can't imagine a better place to get married. I absolutely loved it. And everyone we worked with was so helpful and patient. If you work with them and ever have any questions, calling helps. We always got our questions answered quickly and with no stress. I have already recommended them to friends. On top of everything else, pictures turned out incredibly. Beautiful place

Such a beautiful venue! It was absolutely perfect for what we needed. Great people to work with and for the cost, wonderful.

We had a fabulous time at Thompson Barn. All our guests were commenting on how beautiful the venue was. It was the perfect size space for our guests. We had about 130. The staff members from the City of Lenexa were great to work with and the space was very easy to decorate. We can't wait to see how our photos turn out with all the natural light and the staircase and Thompson Lackman Estate as the backdrop. There was plenty of space for both mine and my husband's sides of the bridal party to get ready. It would have been nice to have a mirror in the Bride's side of the space to get ready, but that is my only complaint. The restrooms were very clean. As the bride, it was nice knowing the ladies room had two large stalls so there was plenty of room for my dress. Overall, we had a great time and would absolutely recommend it to our friends.

Thompson Barn was the perfect mix of modern and rustic for our wedding! We had 125 guests and it was the perfect amount of space. Everyone could not stop telling us what a great wedding venue it was!

Thompson Barn was exactly what we wanted in a venue! We had our ceremony and reception here and it was perfect. A few words of warning for future couples though: Yes, you do have to camp out if you want a Saturday in a peak month. My fiance and I slept in the parking lot for 14 hours to get our date- but it was SO worth it. You do not get rehearsal time the night before- you only get the day that you book. That also means you have to do all the decorating on the day of. This worked out totally fine for us- we got there at 8 when the barn opened and decorated and were done by lunch to begin getting ready. You can get married outside, but trains and I-35 are right there so we got married inside. I heard horror stories of trains going by right as the processional began outside. Other than that, the staff is all very easy to work with, the venue is gorgeous and it is SO affordable. It's perfect for the modern-rustic feel! Would definitely pick this place again- it was worth the camp-out and every penny!

This venue was beautiful and amazing!! I had to camp out overnight for our date but it was worth every second of it! At this venue you will have to set up and take down yourself but with the natural beauty of the barn you won't need much! All of my guests loved this venue! It may be a little difficult for guests to picture where the location is if they aren't familiar with the area but it's really easy to get too off of I 435. We printed little direction cards for people to get from the church to the barn. I would 100% recommend this venue!! Please be aware though like I said earlier that you have to set this venue up yourself, they do not have a staff to set up decorations, bar, etc. this venue provided the most amazing back drop to my wedding day!

This venue was everything that I wanted and more. It was exactly what I had hoped it would be-the price was also incredible. Everything about the Thompson barn, from the grounds, to the staff to the actual barn itself was incredible. I would tell anyone to get this venue because it will make all your wedding dreams come true-however make sure you get there super early in the morning to book it because it's VERY popular & books up fast. This venue will not disappoint.
