Zelda's Catering wasn't just our vendor for our daughter's wedding at the Palmer House last summer. Linda Neiman and her staff were our partners. They worked with us tirelessly to fine tune a menu that respected our budget, met various dietary needs and pleased our serious "foodies." The food looked beautiful and tasted even better. Just writing this, I wish I could go back for seconds.
Choose Zelda's for Kosher Chicago weddings. Linda was great to work with. Not only did she cater our wedding, but the Shabbat dinner and lunch beforehand. The meals each outdid the others. Her options are varied and each dish was great. The salmon for the our 240 person wedding was perfectly moist, as was the chicken.
If you are in the market for kosher catering I highly recommend Zelda’s. Julie Ratowitz, director of events worked with us from start to finish helping to realize our daughter and son-in-law’s wedding vision.
From the menu options, to tastings and time line, Julie and her team excelled.
Zelda’s catered two separate events for us. A rehearsal/Friday night dinner and the wedding. If you want creative, delicious food, Zelda’s is it!
Zelda's catered our wedding this April (2017). While the food was tasty and beautifully presented on the day of, the customer service was terrible leading up to our event. Working with Zelda's was in fact the most stressful part of planning our wedding. Linda, president of the catering company and our contact throughout this ordeal, did not respond to our emails promptly or thoroughly -- we had to follow up, sometimes multiple times, before she would respond to our messages, and when she did, she often only answered some of the questions we had posed.
But the biggest issue was signing off on our final menu plan. We met Linda in January for our tasting, made some changes to our initial menu selections, and then Linda said she would send us a final menu for us to sign "next week." Five weeks later, she still had not sent it. When we followed up, we also asked for a few additional changes to the menu (we changed our minds about an appetizer, for instance). Long story short, we didn't receive the final menu for another ten weeks: a week before our wedding and the day before our payment was due. And that so-called final menu did not even have any of the changes we had requested at the tasting in January, or the changes we had made afterward! Because the menu was so late, and so inaccurate, my husband ended up having to take the afternoon off work to drive 45 minutes to Linda's office to resolve the issue in person and drop off our check. Needless to say, this was all an extremely frustrating experience. To our great relief, the menu was executed at the wedding as we had planned.
Our only complaint about the day of is that the wait staff came out with entrees in the middle of the best man's speech, walking right across the dance floor, blocking everyone's (including the groom and our videographer's) view of the speech. Then they did it again during the father of the groom's speech!
In summary, if you work with Zelda's, be prepared to be vigilant about following up on emails, and check through all of your paperwork carefully. We certainly do not believe Linda created these difficulties for us on purpose, but there are definitely some efficiency and organizational issues that need to be resolved.
Linda Neiman was wonderful to work with. She is patient, kind and knowledgable. She responds to emails and calls very promptly and answered all of our (MANY) questions. She helped us to create a menu that was unique and seasonal, but also crowd-pleasing. She worked extremely hard to keep us within our budget. We had a delightful tasting 2 months before the wedding. Linda provided us with several variations on each of the dishes and listened very carefully to our feedback. Our guests said that the food was outstanding. Another great thing about Zelda's is that the wedding cake is included and they can create pretty much any style or design you want. I couldn't believe how amazingly delicious our pareve chocolate & vanilla cake was!! I wished I could take the whole thing home for myself :) Zelda's truly provides gourmet kosher catering at a reasonable price.
Jamie Thompson was excellent here!
The only bad thing is that the caterer had to rent ovens since kitchens were not kosher. One of the ovens broke and therefore food was not served in timely manner to guests and food was cold. However we were compensated for this. Still, Jamie was terrific!!
