So, truth be told, I wasn't even going to have a cake. Neither my husband nor I are big dessert people--and we had planned something else during the reception in lieu of cutting the cake. But my mother insisted, and three days before the wedd...ing, I was off to Publix to try to figure out a cake option.
Publix CANNOT make a wedding cake in three days. I think they require that you order three weeks in advance at minimum. They're also just as pricey as many of the other bakeries in my area.
What Publix CAN do is make three sheet cakes (I got a half sheet, a quarter sheet, and an eighth sheet), stack them on top of each other (for a small additional fee), and frost them beautifully. This is what I chose to do. The cake tasted great (Publix does make yummy cakes!)...especially since I skipped the expensive fondant and had them do a butter cream icing. The stacks were not as tall as a traditional wedding cake, but it still looked nice in the pictures, especially once we decorated the cake with live flowers.
I recommend Publix bakery for the budget conscious bride. They were fast, able to deliver, and went out of their way to help (they even crafted a box out of multiple boxes since they didn't actually have one that would fit the cake after it was stacked). Good cake, good price, beautifully decorated, good customer service.
