Emily Halonen Bratcher is a contributor for The Knot, where she writes a variety of articles related to wedding planning. More than a decade ago, she detailed her own wedding-planning process in a Washingtonian blog called “A Washingtonian Wedding.”
When she’s not writing, she enjoys reading, running, cooking, drinking coffee by the bowl and hanging with her husband, children and a Goldendoodle called Billy Faulkner.
Experience
Emily has worked as a writer and editor for more than 14 years. After graduating from the University of Missouri, she took an internship at the Washingtonian magazine after which she served as the staff writer at Wichita magazine and later a travel editor at U.S. News & World Report.
Since then, her work has also appeared in many national outlets and industry publications including Southern Living, Outside Online, Subaru Drive, Discovery and Forbes Vetted, among others.
Education
Emily graduated with a magazine journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and she is proud to call herself a Mizzou Tiger. While in college, she wrote for the Columbia Missourian newspaper and interned at a Hachette Filipacchi magazine in London called Real Homes. She was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Emily also mentored youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters and worked as a server at a local restaurant called Addison’s.
