Zach is a contributor for The Knot, covering all things love, dating and overall wellness. From dating nightmares to dismantling societal body image norms, Zach puts it all out there for readers to enjoy. With a background in reporting on others’ stories, Zach is excited to share his own lived experiences with readers to connect with and hopefully learn from.
Zach has been a Houstonian since 2014 and loves the cultural diversity of the city and the incredible food scene. In his free time, he loves hanging out with his “Little Brother” through Big Brothers Big Sisters, playing with his cat Monty, riding bikes, thrift shopping, playing tennis and watching documentaries.
Experience
Zach began freelance writing in 2019 for Houston CityBook Magazine, covering local artists, non-profits, musicians and more. He soon added OutSmart Magazine, Houston’s LGBTQ+ magazine, to his resume. Writing for OutSmart allows him to cover local queer community leaders, national celebrities, politics and more. Additionally, Zach has written artist profiles for Theatre Under The Stars musical production Playbills and long-form articles for Chron.com, the website of the Houston Chronicle.
Education
Zach is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin class of 2014, where he majored in Kinesiology with a specialization in Disability Studies and a minor in Education. While attending UT, Zach worked in guest services at Texas Performing Arts, as a tour guide at the UT Tower and volunteered as a “Buddy” with Best Buddies.
Awards and Appearances
Zach serves as the Vice President for the Board of Directors for Montrose Grace Place, a local non-profit that supports youth of all gender identities experiencing homelessness.
He has been a guest on Great Day Houston to speak about the impact of being a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters and was featured in an OutSmart article discussing the inclusiveness of the organization.
Zach was featured in an article for them that explored Kacey Musgraves’s impact on the queer community.
