It’s been nearly three years since The Hills star Whitney Port exchanged vows with her husband, Tim Rosenman, but that doesn’t mean the former reality star is at all rusty when it comes to chatting about all things bridal. Port—who announced Tuesday, August 21, that she will be on the reboot of the show The Hills: New Beginnings—tells The Knot that in reflecting back on her own sunset desert wedding, there’s just one key thing she would have done differently.
“Maybe have a few more heaters,” the fashion designer, 33, says of her November nuptials in Palm Springs, Calif. “It got a little chilly that night.” Other than the logistics, however, Port says her wedding went swimmingly. Her sister Ashley, with the help of her company BK Events, threw together a fun fete that was, in Port’s words, “personalized, fun and different.”
“I had a very clear vision for the wedding and Ashley helped to execute with all of the right vendors,” Port says. “We found these amazing women down in San Diego who own a company called Pow Wow. We drove down to their warehouse and were able to select each and every piece of furniture to create all the different seating ‘lounges’ around the dance floor.”
Port says one of her go-to spots for wedding must-haves is Marshalls, because “their selection allows you to explore and get inspired,” and even better, allows brides to get the looks they love “for less without sacrificing on quality.”
The lifestyle guru tells us that several items that the megastore carries that she considers her “top picks” for pre-wedding necessities include a notebook to help brides-to-be stay organized before the big day (ideal for holding inspirational sketches), decor for reasonable prices (“It has everything from rustic lanterns to votive centerpieces to create your dream table setting,” she says), and spa essentials and skin care products ideal for relaxing.
Of course, the store is also an option for wedding registries, Port says. Among her favorite items: crystal champagne glasses, Italian leather luggage and travel accessories (perfect for a honeymoon!), wicker picnic baskets for a spontaneous summer park date and a waffle maker, because it’s “a must for those future breakfasts in bed.”
On their wedding day, Port and Rosenman had just a few non-negotiables. “We asked all of our wedding guests to wear white or black,” she says. “[There were] lots of fun hydration stations, including fresh coconuts at the ceremony. And there was no sit-down dinner.”
Other than that, the couple went with the flow, counting on photographer Hannah Costello to capture the night. “I actually found Hannah on Instagram,” Port says. “I was looking for someone with a different eye and posted about it on my Insta. Hannah was one of the photographers that reached out and it kind of all just happened from there.”
Now that the couple is happily married (with one-year-old son Sonny Sanford along for the ride), the couple could not be happier. “We have created this amazing foundation with so much love and support for each other,” she says.
When asked about the best part of marriage, she replies, “Everything!”
