Jewish Weddings: Does a traditional Jewish Ceremony Have to be Held in a Synagogue?

Q:

Does a traditional Jewish ceremony have to be in a synagogue or can it be held outside, as long as it's with a rabbi?

A:

There is no rule saying that it must be held in a synagogue -- as long as the huppah (representing the home the couple will make together) is present and the ceremony is under a rabbi's supervision, it can be held anywhere. These days, it is increasingly common to hold Jewish weddings in reception halls, hotels and outdoor venues. Check out our Jewish Weddings site here with loads of great photos and articles on this very topic.
