've been putting off this review because I have so many mixed emotions. I recognize this is someone's livelihood and as someone who relies heavily on others' reviews in my decision making process, a negative review can make a big impact. That said, after much contemplation, I did feel the need to share my experience in hopes that it helps DJ Who improve and helps others make a decision that's best for them and their big day.
DJ Who (aka Tom) was incredibly responsive and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him during our first phone call. We talked about the type of music we like and joked about how adamant we were that there would be no group/coordinated dances at our wedding (aka the cha cha slide, cupid shuffle, etc.). We also talked about an anniversary dance for the married couples. This was close to my heart because I wanted my 90 year-old grandparents to be in the spotlight as the last ones dancing.
To help him prepare for the wedding, Tom asked us to submit a list of 25 must-play songs. A few weeks before the wedding, we did submit our songs and again stated that group dances are on the “do not play” list. Unfortunately, the song that Tom chose to “get the party going” was a coordinated dance song, the “train” to be exact. I tried to get into it but it was a no-go for the group; my husband, who’s a big-time dance guy, walked right off the dance floor. We spent a lot of time and effort picking out our top 25 must-plays and I swear I didn't hear half of them on the dance floor. I did see on another review that he noted playing music during dinner, and I do recall hearing a few, but if you're pulling together a list for the DJ I would think it's understood that you want to dance to those songs.
My Maid of Honor came up to me very upset that he said he wouldn't play any of her requests. I was changing into my party dress when he chose to play the "anniversary" song, so I only caught the tail end to witness my grandparents dancing. All in all, both me and my husband were pretty gosh darn disappointed.
That said, I would like to note that he was prompt (even early) setting up. He brought extra lighting than we had not paid for (and it was definitely cool!) and he was a great MC!
I know pleasing everyone is no easy task. I thank you for the hard work you put in and I want you to know that I am appreciative but I felt compelled to share this experience as the music was so important to us.
We had a fabulous wedding day, but the DJ was the one sore spot. I had almost no opinions a lot of the planning, but wanted good music since my fiancé is a musician. In the days leading up to the wedding, I told my planner I thought our DJ was annoyed with me. We had to have the playlist in by a certain time - and it was still before the deadline - but I had more time sensitive planning to do ahead of it. He sent multiple emails reminding me to get it in - which I understand you need time to compile it - but like I said, we were trying to put out other fires and I still had a few days to get it in. At the wedding, I had multiple guests come up to me and tell me they requested songs that were never played & out of the entire “must play” song list I compiled, he played maybe one. It didn’t even match the genre of what we requested - rock and country and oldies. My friends told me afterwards that he seemed in a really bad mood. We had communicated with him beforehand about our friends plugging in to sing our first dance song, but I don’t believe he was very accommodating with that. Our videographers even commented on how chill we were and how it was the “best wedding they had ever done.” I don’t know what the difference was with him. We got married and had a blast otherwise, but man was this a disappointment.
DJ Who did a great job working our wedding. He was very professional and timely with the music. Also VERY VERY good at responding quickly to messages I was impressed which also was one of the main reasons why I picked him. I totally recommend!
DJ Who really is the best of the best. He stepped in to help out with sound for a wedding I coordinated the day of a wedding I helped organize when the original plans fell through on top of doing a beautiful job with lighting, MCing and a beautiful photobooth set up. Run don’t walk to book him for your next event.
I loved working with Tom of DJ Who. He is so nice and easy to work with. He was punctual and super energetic. I absolutely love the sparklers!!
