perfect way to “tie in” my husband’s six siblings - by giving them each a ribbon to add in. It made our ceremony that much more special to have our family involved.
We were so thankful he came to our rehearsal dinner and corralled our big families. Everyone asked a million questions, we rehearsed 2-3 times and it went very well.
His day-of services were amazing - he really took the time to get to know us, and got both our families laughing. He ran interference between arriving guests, the grooms suite and the bridal suite. He even put painters tape on the stage/platform floor because one of my bridesmaids didn’t know where to stand. He cut our ribbons to the perfect length. He printed out our vows on pearlescent paper as keepsakes. He ducked out of our first wedded kiss pictures, and stayed after to help get everyone’s signatures. Born and raised in Kansas City, I started officiating weddings in 2009 after finding that several members of the LGBTQ+ community felt as if they were excluded or less than others. I quickly became requested to officiate the weddings of several family members, followed by close friends that had been at the weddings I officiated, moving more mainstream.
To me, this is by far, the best industry to be involved with. I get to play a role in making someone's special day all more that special with my words and ceremonies, and get to stand by as couples commit their love and life to one another.
