Experience

Since she was young, Allyson always had her nose stuck in a book or spent time writing stories in journals. So it was no surprise when she ended up majoring in journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. There, she explored all avenues of journalism and reporting, including an internship at USA Weekend Sunday magazine and a semester as an education reporter for the university-run newswire service.

After graduation, she moved to New York City to work as a lifestyle editor at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. There, she wrote and edited stories about fashion, party planning, holiday gift guides, travel, food and recipes, and DIY crafts.

After five years at the magazine she moved back to her hometown of Washington, DC. to work as an editor for National Geographic Books. She continues to write about travel, wedding planning, and gift guides for The Knot.
