Allyson is a writer and editor who contributes articles to The Knot, particularly focused on travel destinations, gift registries, and shower and wedding planning. She has written articles on weddings and the surrounding celebrations for more than four years.
She has also written about party planning and DIY crafts for WeddingWire, Brides.com, Brit + Co., and Bustle. Previously, she worked at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, where she worked as a lifestyle editor covering gift guides, travel, beauty, party planning, DIY, and recipes.
She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and son. When not exploring new places, she enjoys cooking, baking, and getting outdoors as much as possible.
Since she was young, Allyson always had her nose stuck in a book or spent time writing stories in journals. So it was no surprise when she ended up majoring in journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. There, she explored all avenues of journalism and reporting, including an internship at USA Weekend Sunday magazine and a semester as an education reporter for the university-run newswire service.
After graduation, she moved to New York City to work as a lifestyle editor at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. There, she wrote and edited stories about fashion, party planning, holiday gift guides, travel, food and recipes, and DIY crafts.
After five years at the magazine she moved back to her hometown of Washington, DC. to work as an editor for National Geographic Books. She continues to write about travel, wedding planning, and gift guides for The Knot.
Allyson is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, where she majored in journalism and received a certification in the Media, Self, and Society Scholars Program. While in college, she interned at On Tap magazine, USA Weekend magazine, and Capital News Service. And as a senior, she interned at Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine as part of the American Society of Magazine Editors internship program. She also received a certification in Leadership Strategies in Book Publishing from Yale School of Management.
