Wedding Processional: Can Parents Escort the Groom Down the Aisle?

Q:

Both my father and mother are walking me down the aisle. I just found out that the mother of the groom wants to walk my husband-to-be down the aisle, too. I know this is the norm in Jewish weddings, but can this be done in a Catholic wedding ceremony? How?

A:

There's no reason at all why your honey's mom can't walk him down the aisle. You'll have to clear it with your officiant, but basically what will happen is that she'll walk in with him and deposit him at the altar next to his groomsmen (instead of him starting out there just before the wedding party enters), then take her seat. Then the processional will begin, and your parents will walk in with you. Simple as that!
