My Wife and I used Hawk Photography for our wedding in Simsbury, CT on 9/29/18. Overall, we had a positive experience. Daryl worked with us to create a wedding package that was within our price range, and also included a few extra 8x10 prints f...or free, which was very generous. Our package also included an engagement sitting at his beautiful studio in Wilton, CT. We did have to pay extra for the photos from the engagement sitting, but Daryl included three 5x7s for free, since we ordered a disc of all the photos. Daryl was very attentive with communication throughout the wedding planning process, reaching out to us by phone every few months to arrange payment installments and to make sure we had a plan for photos on our wedding day.
Although we were originally under the impression that Daryl would be taking our photos on our wedding day, our actual wedding day photographer was a gentleman named Richard Diamond. Daryl communicated to us well in advance of the wedding that Richard would be taking our photos, and made sure that we had his contact information, and that he had our essential list of photos that we wanted him to take. Richard also reached out to us personally before the wedding, to make sure our plans with him were all set. On the day of our wedding, Richard and his assistant arrived early, and they were very accommodating and easy to work with throughout the entire event. Richard even showed us some of the pictures on his camera in between shots, to make sure we liked them, and to see if we wanted him to do anything differently. The pictures that Richard took came out beautifully, and we received them just two weeks after the wedding.
A heads up about a few things:
- As I previously mentioned, Daryl did not take our wedding day photos himself. This worked out fine for us because Richard was wonderful, but just a note if this is something you’re concerned about when choosing a wedding photographer.
- The cost of the pictures from our engagement sitting was not included in the total price of our package, and that wasn’t made clear when we first met with Daryl to write up our contract.
- There were a few times when we had to initiate contact with Daryl to follow up about some things that hadn’t been done. We did not receive the disc of our engagement photos in a timely manner, and we had to contact Daryl to receive it. Also, one of our 8x10 enlargements was misprinted when we received it, and we had to reach out to Daryl to receive the reprinted one in a timely manner. We also did not receive our online viewing link for the photos until we reached out to Daryl about it.
Other than those few issues, we had a great experience with this vendor. If Daryl is not available for your wedding day photos, I’d highly recommend asking for Richard Diamond.
