Tres Dean is an Associate Editor at The Knot Worldwide who covers all things menswear for grooms-to-be. He specializes in suiting though he’s definitely seen The Talented Mr. Ripley enough times to qualify as a beach/destination wedding apparel expert as well. He’s written about menswear for a myriad of publications for over a decade, with his goal at The Knot being making the world of menswear simple, accessible, and exciting for grooms-to-be.

After five years in New York he relocated to Los Angeles in 2022, where he’ll stay until they kick him out, though Richmond, Virginia (one of the most underrated menswear cities in the country and he WILL tell you why) will always be home. He enjoys being a regular at coffee shops, pausing movies to point out good costuming choices, and fast cars (watching them as well as driving them).

Experience

Tres has a million interests and has spent most of the last decade-plus finding ways to explore them through writing. His passion for the craft is not confined to a single medium, with his name appearing on nonfiction book covers, comic book series, and some of the more esteemed publications in the world alike. After breaking into editorial writing through reviewing comics for IGN he hit the ground running, covering anything he could convince a publication to hire him to write. He’s written about film and television for Vulture, interviewed NBA players and Top Chef contestants alike for GQ, and even wrote a book about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for Quirk Books in 2019.

After over five years of a full-time career as a freelance writer, he found a home at The Knot in 2023. He’s thrilled to have managed to turn his longtime hobby of window shopping for suits through his laptop screen into a nine-to-five job.

Education

Tres graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. In 2013 he served as an editorial intern at Marvel Comics in New York City and went on to found VCU’s first annual student comics publication with his friends and colleagues. The publication, now titled Emanata, remains an official university publication to this day.
