When my wife and I were looking at the portfolios of potential wedding photographers, the work from k. thompson immediately jumped out at us as the top of the pack.
Our decision to hire her and her team was the *best* decision we could have ma...
de for capturing our wedding day.
Kelsey's photography team did an incredible job of capturing the big moments *and* the quiet moments of our wedding. The photos from our wedding are stunning: they tell stories. You get to see the connections and emotions between people so beautifully: the excitement as our friends circled us during our first dance as a couple, the joy radiating from our parents during the maid of honor's speech, magazine-cover-worthy shots of us at the reception hall before the guests arrived.
Every single time we browse through our wedding photo collection, we keep finding new favorites.
Hire Kelsey and her team. The artistic touches they will put on your wedding photos will make you laugh, make you smile, and make you cry (in the best of ways).

Kelsey is amazing and we're so glad we worked with her for our engagement shoot and our wedding. Very professional and fun, she kept us laughing and smiling throughout the day (even though it was freezing on our wedding day and we spent a lot ...
of time outside for photos). She was also very flexible with us as we requested additional shots of family on the day of. She was very open to feedback from the engagement shoot which meant that our wedding photos were perfect.

The way this first began was when I opened up the portfolios from various photographers that I was interested in, or recommended to us by our venue. Her photos on her website are stunning and was definitely my top choice. And my (now) husband w...
ould nitpick reasons why he didn't like the other photographers but as soon as he saw Kelsey's, he took one look and said she is the one. Ever since then it only got better and better, from our conversation with her, to our engagement session, and the day of our wedding. Kelsey is amazing. I don't think words can actually express the extent of how wonderful she is.. but I'll try -- From getting you relaxed, being understanding, caring about you and what you want, the quality of the photos she creates, the artistic vision she has with the area she's working with, her lovely personality, and her ability to take any tension or difficult scenarios and managing to handle the situation perfectly. And the day of the wedding, she and her assistant photographer just took my breath away at how flawless they were. I can't wait for another event to work with Kelsey again. If you are fortunate enough to have an opportunity to work with her on your wedding day, I'd absolutely say go with Kelsey!

First and foremost, let me start off by saying that my husband HATES having his picture taken. During the wedding planning process it was one of the things he dreaded the most...the idea of someone sticking a camera in his face for basically a...
n entire day sounded miserable to him.
Then we met Kelsey.
Kelsey had done the wedding photography for two couples that my husband and I are very close with so we knew the end product would be fantastic. However, in sitting in her Alexandria studio (attached to her house), I found myself thinking "This is someone I'd like to have at my wedding regardless of if she's a vendor or not". She immediately put us at ease and is about as down to earth as you could possibly be. She clearly has a great eye for pictures and her abilities to create custom albums and different packages for each couple's needs really was appreciated. Importantly, not once in the entire process did we ever feel like we were being "sold"...she seemed completely fine if we had chosen the smallest package or the largest and helped us envision what we would do with each in the same helpful detail. I very clearly remember walking down her sidewalk with my then fiance and both of us chuckling and saying "well its no contest, it has to be her".
Leading up to the wedding she was extremely helpful in planning ideas (where to do the reveal, how to handle family pictures, etc) and timelines that proved to be not only useful, but necessary, as we got closer to the big day.
On our wedding day, Kelsey lived up to our expectations and more. Despite the threat of rain, we were able to do our reveal without a hitch at the DC World War I Memorial while Kelsey fended off meddling park police (we did have a permit) and organized our group quickly and efficiently. At the ceremony and reception, I almost didn't even realize that Kelsey was there (and that is a compliment!) once we got through the family pictures. Her ability to herd the families through in a way that allowed us to actually enjoy our cocktail hour was greatly appreciated.
She found us just before she was packing up to leave for the night and asked if there was anything she could do for us. My husband quickly asked if she had been able to get a few shots we'd discussed and she laughed and said she had. She looked exhausted and we knew she had worked her butt off both getting the best pictures she could as well as ensuring that in doing so, she in now way made us feel like she was imposing.
We were truly lucky to have Kelsey Thompson as the photographer that chronicled our special day, and I would wholeheartedly endorse her to anyone who is just beginning the wedding planning process.

Kelsey is a wonderful person to work with. She seemed to genuinely care about your photographs and your experience. She is well organized and has a plan before she gets there. If your wedding is large enough you get two photographers. I had an ...
amazing experience with her. She is so into making your photos amazing you do have to wait some time before getting to see your photos. About 6-8 weeks. That may be the norm, I do not know. But you do get a sneak peek at a handful of pictures which makes you all the more excited for the rest. I am patiently/eagerly waiting to see more than my sneak peek!!! So far her work has been outstanding. I have an uncle who works in the photography and film industry for a large network and he told me that he could tell her work was amazing based on seeing her work. So far he was totally right.
