Due to various life events such as getting married, and having our first child, we were unable to find time to write this review at the time of service. Now that we are about to have our 1-year anniversary, my husband and I thought it appropria...te to write one now.
When we first found A Sweet Design, we were beyond excited for the services that we were promised. Our tasting and designing session went fabulously, and we were overjoyed with the product and professionalism. Through COVID, we kept in constant contact to make sure that any changes we made were communicated to A Sweet Design. Up until the day before our wedding (08.30.2020), everything seemed to be in order. Our wedding coordinator had confirmed multiple times with A Sweet Design that we would receive our order (for which we had already paid in full) by 4pm on our wedding day.
Following our ceremony and photos, I showed up to my reception only to hear from my wedding coordinator that our cake had not shown up. She informed us that she had confirmed the time and the date multiple times, but was now completely unable to get in touch with A Sweet Design after 14 emails, and various phone calls. Our Wedding Coordinator (Ellie Burton) was very professional, and by the time we had been told our cake was not going to arrive, she had already come up with a back up plan and ordered desserts from a nearby bakery, and our catering service (Wolf Creek Grille) graciously made a small cake for us to cut for pictures.
We did not want to jump to any conclusions. We feared that something unfortunate may have happened (an accident, a fire, etc.) so we did not make any assumptions outright. During our honeymoon, our wedding coordinator emailed A Sweet Design once again to ask if everybody was ok, or if there had been an incident that prevented them from delivering our wedding cake. Not only had there not been any type of accident, but we were informed that during COVID, paperwork had been transferred to a different binder (prepaid vs. to be paid) and they simply had forgotten to check their binder that day which would have told them that we were owed a cake. The sadness I felt was unmatched, as I had been dreaming of my wedding cake for 8 months.
A Sweet Design explained that this had never happened before and apologized, however, I still could not get over the fact that I would never get my wedding cake because someone did not perform due diligence. They provided a full refund, paid for the cake that Wolf Creek made (only $65 mind you), and offered a $500 credit at their store.
At first, this didn't seem like a horrible way to try and make up for the mistake. After all, the wedding was about getting married, not about a cake. I made it clear several times that I wanted to use the $500 to receive the wedding cake I had designed, just a smaller version of it, but that message was never grasped. We were sent cake pops, mini cupcakes, and offered an 8" round cake worth $100 of our $500 credit, that we did not end up taking. We have not had any interest in using the remaining $400 credit that we maintain with A Sweet Design.
I have no doubt that this was, in fact, the first instance of this happening for A Sweet Design, but I do not accept it as an excuse. I will never be able to go back to my wedding day and cut the beautiful cake. My husband and I want to show ample grace, but we at least had to share our experience. I hope no other brides have to experience this disappointment.
