DO NOT USE THEM FOR ALTERATIONS. If you can’t purchase the dress and have it altered elsewhere, it’s worth finding another dress or finding the dress at another shop. Their alterations are horrendous for a shop that sells such high end designers.
Warning to sample sale shoppers! My mother and I, ill-prepared for the chaotic nature of a sample sale, purchased a designer dress for $2700, advertised as 73% off. The term "sample sale" led us to believe they were selling the unaltered display dresses for try-ons. Keep in mind that sample sale dresses are non-refundable.
Upon closer inspection at home, the purchased champagne designer dress turned out to be a filthy ivory dress, seemingly used, and clearly altered and poorly so with a shoddy hem job, horribly damaged beading, and a shit zipper replacement.
They offered full alterations at a steep flat fee of $1000, but to make matters worse, when we inquired about potential specific alterations, such as fixing the shit zipper replacement included, all follow-up questions were blatantly ignored.
Proceed with caution when considering purchases from this sample sale, as our experience left much to be desired and filled with regret.
The team was amazing, and you can tell the difference between a high-end bridal atelier. I only tried on Mira at Carines, because I knew I wanted to be a Mira bride. I was never pressured into trying on other designers. Every single Mira gown was a DREAM, and at one point turned to my lovely consultant and asked, “every one of these is spectacular, I would love to be married in any, how will I ever be able to pick??!!” And she said, “oh you will know.” Their communication was amazing, and because Mira is so customized to begin with, there were very little alterations needed.
Carine's did such a great job with my dress, my tailor Rosana was so skilled and took the time to address any questions I had throughout the process. The staff was so supportive and every time I left more excited!
Carines ruined the bridal dress experience each step of the way. Below I’ve included a list of a few notable items from my experience with the boutique.
- Dress not altered two days before wedding.
- Blamed for dress not being altered properly.
- Asked to drive over an hour away to the tailor’s house to have the dress fixed - again, TWO days before wedding.
- Blamed again for dress not being altered properly.
- Charged additional fee for alterations, which were at the fault of Carines. (Without having the courage to tell me in person and following up with a text message. Also, How was this considered an additional alteration when it was not altered properly in the first place?)
- Carines initially refused to let me try on my dress before leaving store. (Only with strong push back could I try it on.)
Additional Annoyances
- Nickeled and dimed each step of the way.
- Cannot reach anyone on the phone.
- Alterations only available Mid-week 10-4 PM. No flexibility for its customer base of working Washingtonian brides.
- Offensive contracts and policies, particularly in regards to weight loss.
The McDonalds drive-thru consistently treats me better when purchasing a $5 hamburger than Carines treated me when purchasing my Oscar de la renta wedding gown. This store has a stranglehold on the Washington bridal dress market and it’s lack of incentive to compete shows. I loved my wedding dress, but looking back on the experience and the amount of stress and frustration Carines caused, I would have been much more open to a wider range of designers and geographic locations to have avoided purchasing through Carines.
If you you do purchase through Carines, I recommend using American Express so that you are able to dispute inappropriate additional charges that will be slammed on you.
This was an awesome experience. Our experience with Carine's was great all the way through. They were flexible with us--I had a lot of people gifting my bridal wear-- and were able to accommodate the various credit cards etc. They also were able to hold my dress for a year when our wedding was pushed back due to COVID.
The fitting was also a good experience and they made sure we understood what we needed to do. They are also very organized and I felt they were reasonably communicative.
I highly recommend this bridal shoppe!
I had a wonderful experience with Carine’s! I went dress shopping in July of 2019, and my mom and I had a great time. We had our own private area to try on dresses, and there was only one other group in the salon at the same time as us. Briana was so helpful in picking out dresses in the styles I said I was interested in, as well as suggesting some silhouettes I never would have expected for myself. We ended up falling in love with a beautiful Lela Rose gown that we purchased that weekend! My original wedding date was supposed to be in August of 2020, but due to COVID we had to postpone. Carine’s was able to store my dress for a small extra fee, and I felt safe knowing the whole time it was in good hands. When it finally did come time to do my fittings, we had a great experience with the alterations team as well. At my last fitting we noticed the bodice of my dress wasn’t laying flat, but we were leaving for my wedding the next day. The team fixed the problem while we waited, and my dress was perfect on my wedding day! Thank you to the team at Carine’s for helping me find the dress of my dreams and for being so great to work with.
The whole team at Carine's was super helpful, caring and professional. I had a great time trying out dresses there. Ended up making a special order of a dress that was not readily available in the showroom. The team really listened to my needs, responded promptly and made it happen. Thank you and I am very excited to be getting married in my dream dress!
The team at Carine's could not have been better. With our wedding date changing and us living in CA it was no easy feat to get my dress fitted but Carine's staff were super flexible. Amber found my dream dress for me - an Ines di Santo sheer bedazzled number...not what I thought I wanted but this is why you work with experts - and she also made my family and I feel so comfortable as I tried on dresses back in May 2019. Fast forward to a week before the wedding after one date change and they were able to get my dress fitted to perfection. I highly recommend checking out Carine's if you live in or plan to have your wedding in the DC area. Thank you to the whole Carine's team with a special hug to Amber who helped me find my dream dress!
My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at Carine's. They were kind enough to have had Monique Lhuillier dress shipped in for my daughter to try, and while it was a top choice, she ended up choosing a different (of course, more expensive...sigh) Lhuillier dress. Well worth it, though, since we are both thrilled with her choice. Maribeth and Briana were charming and terrific to work with - looking forward to seeing them for fittings in a few months!
Make sure you tell them your budget before you go. Mine was ~$1,500 and I was told there weren't any dresses in my price range.
I had such great experience at Carine's! Everyone there was so patient and attentive, helping me decide on what I wanted for my wedding day. The consultants are very knowledgeable on bridal fashion and on their dresses! They really made this a comfortable and enjoyable experience! Five stars is not enough!
Where do I even start? Working with Carine and her team was an absolute dream. From my initial appointment with Jessica, to my last fittings with their team of seamstresses, everything was PERFECT. When we first went to Carine's, I had a very specific dress in mind. Upon finding out that it was not carried in any of the bridal boutiques in the area, Carine requested to borrow it from the designer so that I could try it on. I immediately fell in love and the team at Carine's took care of everything. I am so thankful that they put me in my dream dress! I can't thank Carine and her team enough.
Loved Carine's! They carry such beautifully unique dresses, the salon itself is gorgeous in Georgetown, and the staff was wonderful to work with throughout the year.
My experience with Carine’s could not have been better. I spent months and months looking for the perfect gown, and in the process tried on at least a dozen dresses at Carine’s alone. The girls, especially Jennifer, Briana, and Corey, became like friends because I was in there so often! I never once detected even a hint of frustration or annoyance from them. They answered my multiple emails (in which I asked for unbelievably minute details about gowns and veils) promptly and cheerfully. They ordered gowns in for me. They stayed after closing to let me keep the dress on just a few minutes longer. They even helped me FaceTime my mom who lives out of town by holding the phone and walking around the gown, answering her questions. Once I finally made a decision and ordered, the gown arrived within the time frame they gave me and was shipped to my wedding location with no problem. The selection of designers and styles was great and the frequent trunk shows really helped expand my choices. Overall great!
DO NOT GO HERE! After signing on the dotted line and purchasing the dress, it was all downhill from there. The staff is completely unorganized and has no clue what is going on. They all tell you conflicting pieces of advice and the owner has zero business acumen. You can buy Berta at so many other places! Please do yourself a favor and go anywhere else! Berta would be embarrassed to have Carine's Bridal Atelier representing them if they truly knew how the client experience is!
My dress was so beautiful I didn't want to take it off. I purchased my Mira Zwillinger dress from them and I could not be happier. Thank you for making my day seamless.
Carine's is amazing! I just had my first appointment there and had a really lovely experience. Their gowns are beautiful and the staff is very helpful. I was surprised to find so many dresses that I loved in my price point since their prices tend to be on the higher end. I am going to check out their sample sale on the 16th and hopefully make my decision soon. FYI all of the gowns will be up to 75% off.
Loved it here! I felt important from the second I walked in the door. My consultant was amazing! She let me form my own opinions and I felt like she really understood my style. It was also a great experience to be able to meet the president of the collection I eventually got a dress from! While the store was small I did not ever feel cramped and I loved almost every dress in the store. The quality of gowns and the staff here way surpassed anywhere else I had been.
We had looked at two other bridal salons before going to Carine's. Even though the outside seems a bit shabby, this bridal store is worth it. It's on the second level of a rowhouse with two changing rooms (usually one for tailoring and the other for trying on dresses). They also sell accessories (clutches, earrings, sashes, necklaces, veils). We worked with Briana in the beginning and then we never saw her again. I felt like we had a different person help me every day. They have an in-house tailoring group who are amazing. They do so much work! I think my favorite was that they made a video on how to do the bustle - very important. I felt like a princess and a bride!
I absolutely love my wedding dress and the staff and seamstresses were so helpful. I know I'll love my dress for years to come and will always have a fond memory of my experience at this salon.
My experience at Carine's was great from start to finish! They had a fantastic selection of dresses, many of which were specialty items and designers I had never heard of before. My consultant, Maddie, was very accommodating with my style and my budget. She was honest about what looked good/bad and truly made the entire experience fun! Of the 5 dress locations I had visited, she was the best dress consultant by far! I recommend Carine's to someone who is looking for a stunningly unique gown and that has some wiggle room with their budget, as some of the dresses are pricer than most. Well worth it!
I purchased a Monique Lhullier gown and belt from here and it was stunning. The girls were very nice to work with and I had a great experience with my dress.
I chose Carine's because it offered some of the dress designers that I was interested in. Upon arriving to the store, I was very impressed with the well curated selection of designers and gowns the store had. I ended up falling in love with a Jenny Lee guipure lace dress, a designer that I was not familiar with. The bridal consultants were very helpful throughout the process. I highly recommend this boutique for any bride looking for a unique gown.
After purchasing the tulle dress of my dreams at their samples sale I decided to take their advice and use their dry cleaner. I am very upset that I did. When I got the dress back it was covered in holes in the tulle. While we complained and sent pictures. We received no reimbursement or even sympathy from either vendor. Be very careful when buying a sample sale dress from there.
Don't waste your time going anywhere else in DC, Carine's Bridel Atelier has the best selection and service you can find! Carine's was the second bridal shop I visited on my dress hunt. At the first shop I saw a belt I loved and the store would not sell it seperately. Then I saw the same belt at Carine's and they sold it to me! I ended up finding a sample dress that I loved and looked perfect with the belt, but I had to make a decision on the spot because they couldn't put the sample on hold. The sales associate was so helpful in helping me make a decision and I left that day with the dress! Being a sample we had some issues along the way with the drycleaning and Carine went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the dress. The alterations were perfect and the dress couldn't have looked more perfect on my wedding day!
I’m posting this because I don’t want other brides to go through the same experience. I bought two dresses for my wedding one from Kleinfelds and one from Carine’s bridal. I spent over $12,000 for the dress and accessories at Carine’s. Once I wrote the check they no longer seemed to care about me as a customer. They scheduled my first dress fitting for a month before my wedding. I found this odd as Kleinfelds scheduled me three months out. I mentioned this to them, but they assured me they would do as many fittings as necessary to achieve the look I wanted.
Before I bought the dress, I asked the alterations department if they could build in a push-up bra so I would have lift in my dress and not need to wear a bra. For the $600.00 alterations charge, I thought this was a reasonable request and they said no problem. After the first fitting the dress still wasn’t tight and I felt as if the bodice was falling down. Their idea of building in a bra was to add a sew-in pad, like the kind you pull out of a VS bra and of course, they only had two sizes neither one of which worked for my dress.
My second fitting was scheduled the Friday before my wedding. I left my first fitting very concerned and emailed the owner a few days later asking to come in early because I was worried about how loose the dress fit. I was told, “all brides are concerned but they are professionals and are confident they can get the dress to fit correctly”. My concerns were brushed aside, again. At my second fitting the dress was loose, the bodice kept falling down and the padding made me look flat chested.
Ultimately, I ended up having to wear a push-up bra (which needed to continually be tucked in the entire night), and the dress did not fit correctly.
I would never have known the difference if not for my experience with another bridal shop, where I had five alterations and the dress fit like a glove.
I hope this post helps other brides from going through the same experience, please, please, please don’t waste your money and sanity, get the dress altered somewhere else.
Like most brides, I tried on a lot of dresses. I ended up at Carine's not because of the staff or the experience, but because of the amazing dresses that they have. I can't say I have warm-fuzzy feelings about my time spent there (it's a little stuffy), but they did a great job helping me pick the right dress and do alterations and, ultimately, that's all that matters. If you're looking for high quality dresses and service and don't mind a little coldness from the staff, Carine's is a great choice.
Overall great experience here compared to other dress shops. No pressure and the ladies are very helpful. It is a pricey store, but the dresses are beautiful. I wasn't as happy with the alterations. The lady I work with was resistant to fitting the bodice as snug as I wanted as it was falling down. And as a result I was pulling it up all night.
Every part of my experience at Carine's was amazing. From dress shopping to alterations I could not say more about how great the shop, the staff or the dress was. I was initially very nervous for dress shopping but my fears were relieved the moment I arrived in Carine's beautiful shop and started working with the staff. They were professional, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. And then I began trying on dresses. A good variety of classic and modern dresses coupled with a staff that knows their designers and what will work best on a bride's body made for an easy choice. I found my dress the first day I shopped and this was totally due to shopping at Carine's. I could not have been happier and everyone loved my dress!
I went to Carine's for a sample sale and ended up finding the perfect dress there! It was the first... and ultimately the last... dress shop that I went to. It seemed small when we walked in but they actually have a huge variety and I lucked out with an amazing deal on a dress that was originally over $4,000! The staff at Carine's were very nice and extremely helpful and I loved the one-on-one attention!
Amazing place. Carine was so helpful and spoke with her a few times. Took the time to help me with travel instructions bc it was destination wedding. Ladies were so helpful with appointments and accessories. Alterations were $700. They were pricey but everything was great looking. Bustle never broke, despite getting stepped on by guests. Dress was a stunning designer gown that i found through their trunk sale. I had no idea when walking in. I found the dress of my dreams and couldnt have asked for nicer service and a more fabulous dress. A+ store!
Amazing! I was a little anxious to go to such an upscale salon to try on dresses -- I'm usually more of a bargain hunter but I want my wedding dress to be perfect :) I went in without much of an idea of what I wanted. Jessica helped me try on all kinds of dresses so that I could figure out what styles I liked. She was just superb! Fabulous customer service -- I felt completely at ease, she was knowledgeable and kind, and did NOT do the kind of hard sell I expected -- which I appreciated so much.
For such a small boutique salon, the range of dresses is fantastic. If you're looking for something sophisticated, classic, quality, but maybe a little quirky too... I recommend Carine's. I fell in love with my silk faille column silhouette Carolina Herrera Dakota gown here.
I got my dress here while they were having a monique lhullier sample sale. They were very attentive and let me take my time. I gave them specific instructions on shipping it to my address across the country, however, and they did not do as I asked. But otherwise, I was very happy with the dress and their service.
I bought my beautiful Monique Lhullier dress on a sample sale at this location. Although I only spent $1000 on the dress, the staff treated me like I'd spent $10,000! They were attentive but never pushy.
I went to three wedding dress stores before Carine's and I'm so glad I made Carine's my final stop. At my previous stores I found either great service but not my dress or great dresses but very rude service (Rizik's was awful; beautiful expensive dresses but very rude, unhelpful and snobby staff). Carine's combined everything I wanted. They had a great selection of gorgeous designer dresses and worked to find me something in my price range. The staff was also very nice and helpful. I found the dress of my dreams at their store but also a very friendly staff that made the next several months of alterations go by smoothly.
Jessica at Carine's was wonderful. I live in Florida, but my sister lives in DC, so I wanted to do my dress shopping with her. I went to Carine's and originally selected a strapless lace dress for my "potential dress list". When I went back to try it on, Jessica selected a different dress by the same designer (Liancarlo) for me to try on in addition to the one I wanted. The dress Jessica selected was perfect for me. She really knows how to help a bride find the perfect dress! I bought the dress Jessica picked and couldn't be happier! It was really beautiful :)
They entire staff was also really helpful and accommodating of my schedule because coming up from Florida for the fittings was a bit difficult. Everyone was really great.
I would also say that finding the perfect dress is really important. You want to feel your most beautiful on your wedding day and I definitely did in my dress. It was definitely worth spending a little bit more than I originally wanted to. I just cut down a little bit in other areas of the wedding budget to make up for it. It was well worth it.
Both my sister and I found our wedding dresses here! Mine was a Liancarlo.... The service from Carine is exceptional. She knows exactly what she's talking about and will make sure you are in the perfect gown for you! I live in Miami and they were very helpful with shipping & only working with one fitting. I also bought my wedding earrings from them as well. There is no way you would go to Carine's and not find the dress of your dreams!
Carine's was the second place that I went dress shopping, and it was my last stop. My dress was gorgeous. While the service was (at times) a little pretentious, the dress was gorgeous and fit perfectly!
LOVE Carine's! They made me feel so comfortable....and I didn't know what on earth I was doing the 1st time I went in. There is no pressure to buy anything. After a couple visits, I ended up getting my dress, earrings, and belt there. The girls (esp Gabriella) are so helpful and responsive.
I could not recommend Carine's any higher! They made everything dress-related so easy and perfect.
Thanks so much!!
they spent HOURS with me to help me find the right dress. I had a short engagement so bought a sample sale dress that I got for about 60% off retail. they are organized, thorough, and sincere i helping you find the gown you love.
I was in love with Carine's Bridal from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxing and the women who work there are the friendliest I have ever met. The dresses are beautiful and these women really help to find the dress that's right for you. I, of course, had a vision of what I wanted. As I tried on a variety of dresses, they helped me to go beyond my vision and fitted me into a dress that best fit me, not just in shape, but in personality. They are classy, professional, knowledgable and very attentive to detail. They made my wedding dress experience a joy that I will remember always and on my wedding day, I felt confident and beautiful. I would highly recommend Carine's Bridal, not just for their sophisticated array of dresses but for the group of women who really want to see you happy and who truly want to help you find the perfect dress for that special day.
Carine's is as good as it gets. This bridal shop was the second place I tried on gowns and I really didn't want to go anywhere else.
Their selection of gowns is like no other. Each gown was unique, so you didn't feel like you were trying on the same gown over and over again. Their selection really made me feel like I had the opportunity to try on everything and see what complimented my figure and style.
Secondly, the service. Even though Carine's is a designer boutique with high end dresses everyone there is incredibly friendly. My consultant was Jessica. Jessica is extremely knowledgeable and really listens to what you have in mind. In addition, she helps you think outside of the box. She encouraged me to try on dresses of all kinds. She said you only do this once, so I was able to have fun with it. I tried on multiple dresses (even ones I knew I probably wouldn't buy), which is something I would not have done somewhere else. I had fun and that's what wedding dress shopping should be. It should be a meaningful and beautiful experience and that's exactly what I had at Carine's.
Lastly, the jewelry and accessories. It's all gorgeous, that's all I have to say! My sister bought me my earrings here and they are stunning.
I bought my Monique Lhuillier wedding dress from Carine's. The service was great and the staff worked with me when there was a problem with my dress (due to a problem on the manufacturing side, my dress was delayed by two weeks).
beautiful store, friendly and organized staff
Beautiful selections, will get anything for you that you may request, very helpful, a real stylist with vast experience! Knows fabrics & styles! Honest! Dependable! Alterations are perfection!
I wanted to get a designer sample dress. Carine's has a continuous stock of sample dresses (some other stores I called only had certain scheduled sample sales). They had a great selection of beautiful dresses and were really friendly. Other stores had been snotty about my request to look at samples but the staff at Carine's was friendly and wonderful and worked happily within my budget. The alterations were fantastic also. Love them!
Carine's was absolutely wonderful! I love how it's a small intimate boutique with the most chic and fashionable gowns. The staff was so incredibly knowledgable, professional, and genuine in order to make their brides happy. They always gave me a call to make sure things were how I wanted them, or returned calls I made within 24 hours. The selection of gowns was amazing and these are some top-notch ladies!
Carine's bridal is absolutely incredible... Everyone is so friendly and truly takes the time to make you feel like the incredible bride that you are! I would recommend any bride that is looking for a bridal gown in many styles and prices to go check out Carine's. Carine and her staff make you feel very comfortable. I felt like a Queen in my wedding dress on my day! Love Carine's
She was getting married the day before me and was very helpful with details. She was extremely RELAXED about everything. Carine is a pro -- ask for her to do your fitting. The personal attention of this small shop is the best part!;At the final fitting I felt a little hurried. The dress wasn't perfect yet and I wanted it to be fixed accordingly. I had a tiff with the seamstress but it got worked out.
Carines was great. The seamstress did an amazing job and really made me look fantastic for the wedding. I went in there knowing which dress i wanted
Knowledgeable, fun, honest, great sense of style
