We met with Jo Ellen earlier this year as I had read good reviews about her cake online and we wanted to consult with her on our wedding. Her designs were beautiful so we were sold on that aspect. We asked for a cake sample. She informed us ...that she only provided samples at shows and if we wanted to sample her cake, she had one coming up where we could get samples. Our only other option was to buy one of her cakes. Since we wanted to finalize this component of our wedding sooner than later, we bought a cake from her which she made fresh for us. The cake was absolutely delicious. Very moist and of high quality ingredients. Upon tasting the cake, we decided to sign a contract. I also ordered a groom's cake as a surprise to my husband. Fast forward to the day of the wedding. Set up was completed per contract. When my husband and I cut into the bottom tier of the cake during the reception, I immediately knew something was not right. Instead of the slice holding together as a moist piece of cake should, it was very crumbly. And upon tasting it, we both realized the worse: this cake was very dry! I am not sure about the other layers nor the quality of the groom's cake. The bottom layer was the largest layer so I know that it was consumed by a large number of guests. I was a bit embarrassed as I had discussed the cake with a couple of my guests prior to the wedding and told them how good it was. However, I must say that this did not come close to ruining my big day. What bothered me the most was the lack of any type of concern or sympathy from her husband when I gave him feedback on the cake. When we returned the cake base for our $50 deposit, he asked how everything was. I told him that the cake looked great but it was a bit dry. No response. Not even a "I'm sorry it wasn't to your liking". And then..though I paid them in a timely manner, I was very surprised to hear that I would not be getting my deposit back until later the following week. He also would not provide me with a copy of the paper that showed that we returned the base. Instead, as a cya, on a separate sheet of paper, I wrote that we returned the base on x date and that the deposit would be mailed by the end of the following week. I then had him sign it. It is not yet the end of the week but I already have concerns about getting our deposit back especially based upon a previous review. All said, due to the dryness of the cake, I cannot recommend this company to anyone.
