Wedding Music & Dancing: Could We Do a Mother Daughter Dance at the Wedding Reception?

Q:

My father passed away when I was young, and my mother never remarried. My fiance and his mother are definitely doing a mother-son dance at our wedding reception, and I think I'd like to honor my parent in the same way. Would it be too weird if we do a mother-daughter dance?

A:

Not at all -- in fact, it'll probably feel great for you to have that moment of calm and closeness with your mother on what will undoubtedly be a whirlwind day. Tell your mom your idea first, to make sure that she feels comfortable with it, then by all means go ahead. Remember, you'll be surrounded by friends and family who know you -- they won't think it's strange at all. They'll find it touching.
