You've done the dating, spent a few years (or months) together and you feel like you've finally met your person. Now, you're ready to take the next big step in your relationship: proposing. Luckily, if you live in Nebraska, the state has so much more to offer than corn, soybeans and wheat—like the perfect proposal spot.

"Nebraska may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of romantic destinations," says Omaha-based proposal photographer Anna Brace, "However, this Midwestern gem of a state offers many beautiful and unique locations that are perfect for popping the question."

Whether you want a romantic proposal in the city of Omaha, you're looking to venture to the outskirts of Lincoln or you prefer a bit of nature, there is a proposal destination for everyone here. Of course, you can always use The Knot Vendor Marketplace to hire a proposal planner or photographer to help with your proposal checklist and location. But in case you want to start the search on your own, here are some recommended proposal spots in Nebraska that have something for every couple.

Scotts Bluff National Monument, Gering, NE

Into rugged landscapes and a place that is sure to bring a dramatic element to your proposal? Try taking your future fiancé to Scotts Bluff National Monument in Gering, Nebraska. The bluff itself towers 800 feet over the ground, making it a picturesque spot to get down on one knee or stand (whatever your thing is.) Plus, this gorgeous location is a place to support the preservation of more than 3,000 acres of historic overland trail remnants, mixed-grass prairie, rugged badlands, towering bluffs and riparian areas along the river. Take in the sights before your partner says "yes!"

Fontenelle Forest, Bellevue, NE

If having a romantic picnic is more your vibe, make sure to scope out Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue. This 1,500-acre location isn't just great for hiking, but an amazing place to pop the question amid a nature center, the children's camp center (if you want to bring kiddos along) and a lot of picnic areas. Pack a picnic basket full of little treats, the ring and a bottle of champagne to pop open to celebrate.

Chimney Rock National Historic Site, Bayard, NE

Chimney Rock, one of the largest (and most famous) landmarks along the Oregon Trail in Bayard, Nebraska is popular for a reason. If you really care about great photos, stunning scenery and appreciating nature, you and your partner will both love a proposal choice here. Get organized and choose this spot early so you can book a photographer in advance for a morning or sunset proposal after a hike.

Nebraska State Capitol, Lincoln, NE

Looking for something more urban? Head to the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. The building, designed by New York architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue in 1920, was constructed of Indiana limestone from 1922 to 1932—now, it's home to Nebraska's government offices. Nonetheless, the architecture of the building is beautiful, and taking a nice stroll outside makes for a perfect lowkey proposal spot in Nebraska.

Carhenge, Alliance, NE

Maybe you'd describe your partner as quirky or unique. If so, choosing Carhenge—a replica of England's Stonehenge made from cars—could be the move. Located just outside of Alliance, Nebraska, Carhenge was built in 1987 by artist Jim Reinders, who was inspired by Stonehenge while living in England. Take a drive on a Sunday with the windows down and stop to check it out before popping the question. Your partner is sure to be surprised.

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Ashland, NE

Another one for the nature and outdoors lovers out there: Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. This public recreation space is surrounded by open fields, trees, an aquatic center and a family center, too. Plan a day of fun activities, followed by a picnic or stroll in the park. Your nature-loving partner will love this adventure-filled proposal idea.

Lauritzen Gardens, Omaha, NE

"Lauritzen Gardens is a hidden gem in the heart of Omaha. This botanical garden features beautiful flowers, trees and fountains, making it a perfect spot for a proposal," Brace says, "You can choose to pop the question in one of the garden's many secluded areas or in front of the stunning rose garden. For a post-proposal celebration, consider having a picnic in the gardens or taking a romantic walk around the many trails and paths."

Lake McConaughy, Ogallala, NE

Water babes unite—Lake McConaughy in Ogallala isn't just the largest lake in Nebraska, but also the perfect proposal spot for those who love to be in and near the elements. Take a walk on the sandy beaches, swim in the clear (and clean) waters and pop the question while having drinks on a hot summer day.

Arbor Lodge State Historical Park, Nebraska City, NE

Maybe rustic and historic is more your vibe. If so, Nebraska City's Arbor Lodge is a great place to propose in Nebraska to let your honey know how you feel. This historical park is the former estate of the founder of Arbor Day and has a 52-room mansion on the property to visit, plus an arboretum and trail. Propose in the quaint, charming gardens surrounding the house and feel like you're going back in time.

Platte River State Park, Louisville, NE

Another one for the water lovers: Platte River State Park in Louisville, Nebraska. While the land is open year-round, it's especially beautiful in the fall. Platte spans 453 acres on the southern bluffs of the Platte River, 2 miles west of Louisville, and is filled with tall forest trees, adorable bridges crossing the river and a ton of secluded spots to pop the question. If you're looking for a place that feels extra private, this one could be the spot for you.

The Sheldon Museum of Art, Lincoln, NE

If you both appreciate art, The Sheldon Museum of Art in Lincoln is an excellent spot to take it in and ask the biggest question of your life. The museum's impressive collection and serene galleries make for a lovely setting, but if you're looking to bring a photographer, double-check with staff before deciding on this location. Usually, though, the building is okay with photography (especially if it's for a proposal)

Missouri River, Crofton, NE

Lastly, we have one more iconic location: the Missouri River. While it's named after a different state, the body of water actually runs through the state of Nebraska, along the eastern border and is the nation's longest river. This proposal spot in Nebraska is perfect if you're taking a long drive and want to plan your proposal along the route. Take in the mountainous scenery before asking your partner the biggest question of them all.
