We hired New Colony for our July 14, 2012 wedding held at Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta, GA. We booked them over a year in advance, and they still appeared unprepared and unprofessional when the big day came.
The food was supposed... to be prepared by 6:30pm for dinner at the reception. Our planner checked with them on more than one occasion to ensure all was going well, and they assured her everything was fine. However, when 6:30 rolled around, roughly half the food was out, and there were no serving utensils. They appeared surprised and unprepared to serve the dinner. On top of that, when they were ready at 6:45, much of the food was cold.
Additionally, we ran out of several dishes. The pasta, carving station, and potatoes all ran out prematurely. Not every guest had the opportunity to sample all of the options, and that is unacceptable. To my knowledge, the only dish that remained not empty was the spinach artichoke dip. For a company who commonly makes too much food (according to other reviews online), not having enough for the 155 guests in attendance was a surprise.
Perhaps the worst part about the whole thing was the fact that this company never once took responsibility for their mishaps. They blamed the oven, the DJ (apparently he gave a false signal for the guests to eat dinner. Not sure I believe it), and even the guests themselves! How can you say guests 'ate too much' when it was served buffet style! Just admit that you were under-prepared and over-booked (they worked another venue that night, too), and stop pointing fingers. For a company in business for 30 years, I couldn't believe the lack of professionalism. And don't get me started on how they couldn't find the 400+ forks we purchased in plain sight and then blamed us for not having adequate silverware.
Perhaps we got a dud from an otherwise good company. Nobody's perfect - I get that. But when the ONLY complaint about anything at a wedding night is the cold, late, and limited food, that throws a red flag for me. The worst is that they refused to take the blame for anything. That must be addressed, and so I'm doing that right now. Again - maybe we just caught a rare bad night, but beware of making the same mistake. For all you know, these people prone to being unprofessional and unprepared could ruin the dinner portion of your wedding and make you feel like you wasted thousands of dollars, too.
