The First Look
The New York Public Library- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building represents a traditional space for ceremonies and receptions in New York City. This Fifth Avenue landmark sits among the marble and stone fixtures of the city's extensive landscape. From elegant settings to classic choices for first look photography, this venue offers spaces to accommodate every wedding day need.
Celeste Bartos Forum. A large glass ceiling provides the highlight of this space. Measuring over 6,00 square feet, this room provides space for up to 500 guests in a standing configuration.
Astor Hall. Marble covers every part of the area known as Astor Hall. Couples may use this space for any occasion, but it is only available for rent after the library is closed. A maximum capacity of 750 attendees is assessed to cocktail receptions while seated affair can hold around 250 people.
The Edna Barnes Salomon Room. Measuring over 4,000 square feet, this room is elegantly appointed with a range of paintings of well-known artists. The ceiling's decorative touches replicate the natural lights of a large skylight. Standing receptions can accommodate 325 guests while seated configurations fit 300 guests.
McGraw Rotunda. This large space exists under exaggerated ceilings and extensive murals. It accommodates between 150 seated attendees and 300 standing guests. Groups seeking to rent the rotunda may only reserve this space when the library is closed.
The Sue and Edgar Wachenheim III Trustees Room. Dark woods as well as a large fireplace highlight the room's traditional theme. This elegantly appointed space holds between 125 standing guests and 110 seated guests.
What You Should Know
Couples can choose their own catering company, but they are encouraged to choose from a list of approved selections. These choices have worked with the venue in the past and have established a good relationship with the library's special events staff. Bars are not included and wedding parties must provide their own alcohol. Area restrictions may apply to any event serving alcohol to guests.
The New York Public Library- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building asks that couples use a wedding coordinator for all planning related to the venue. They should also be onsite throughout the event.
Music can be played among indoor spaces. Live bands as well as DJs are welcome with prior approval from The New York Public Library- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building staff. A requested music cutoff time may be applied to any event and can be changed without notice.
A deposit must be paid in full at the time of booking. The additional balance must also be paid in a reasonable amount of time before the event. There are no exceptions to this policy and additional charges may apply to late payments.
