The Best Times to Visit Jordan

When visiting Jordan, one of the best times of the year to schedule your trip is between March and May, or in the fall from September to November. The summer months can get extremely hot in Jordan, making exploring and hiking practically unmanageable and uncomfortable.

Jordan Tourism Tips for Couples

Jordan is relatively safe; however, visitors should be aware of potential pickpocketing as with any travel destination. It's a good idea to have a crossbody bag and copies of important documents with you at all times. It's also recommended to avoid the border of Iraq and Syria at the moment. Instead, start the trip by flying into Amman and heading south to Petra and Wadi Rum on the southern end of Jordan.

Jordan's national language is Arabic, but visitors will find plenty of English speakers across the country. (When visiting any country, it is important to learn the basics of culture and language exchange, nevertheless.) Currency-wise, Jordan uses the Jordanian Dinar, so consider the exchange rate to the US Dollar when traveling. It's relatively easy to get to Jordan from the states. Plan on an 11-hour nonstop flight from New York City on Royal Jordanian Airlines.

Amman

Flying into the capital of Jordan is a great place to start the trip. Amman has the feel of a modern and big city mixed with ancient ruins. Visit Umayyad Palace from the 8th century and the Roman Theater.

Petra

Petra is on the top of the list for most tourists who visit Jordan. This archaeological site dates back to 300 BC. Once the Nabatean Kingdom's capital, Petra is full of carvings, tombs and temples to explore. In addition to exploring Petra during the day, register to see Petra by Night, where you can explore the historical site in the evening by candlelight. Where is Petra exactly? Keep in mind it's a near mile hike to the Treasury in Petra.

Jerash

Explore Jerash, full of historical ruins from the Greco-Roman settlement of Gerasa like the columns from the Temple of Artemis or Hadrian's Arch dating back to the second century. There's a museum in town where visitors can explore protected artifacts from the ruins called The Jerash Archaeological Museum.

Things to Do in Jordan

Discovering couples activities for your honeymoon or booking things to do for your next couples trip won't be challenging in this country. There's plenty of things to do in Jordan to get the most of your time in this beautiful country. Along with archaeological sites like Petra, there are plenty of amazing local restaurants, markets, the Red Sea, the Dead Sea and more.

Explore the City of Amman

Tour the Citadel to see the Temple of Hercules, the Byzantine Church and its columns, the Hand of Hercules and so much more in Amman. There's much to do in the city: browse local markets to buy souvenirs and plenty of treats like Knafeh.

Book Dinner at Sufra

Have dinner at Sufra in Amman to enjoy traditional spreads, dips, salads and Jordanian dishes. In the back of the establishment, the staff uses a clay oven to create the traditional taboon bread to accompany the spreads and salads.

Snorkel or Dive in the Red Sea in Aqaba

You can dive or snorkel, but visitors won't want to miss the amazing sites in Aqaba. See a sunken tank or airplane transformed into what is now an artificial coral reef. The captain of the voyage takes guests over to Rainbow Reef where there are a ton of colorful fish, turtles and other surprises around every corner. When everyone gets back on the boat, they grill some chicken, fish and pita and put out salads for a delicious light lunch for the group.

Sharpen Your Culinary Skills at Petra Kitchen

Learn how to make some traditional Jordanian dishes at a cooking class run by Petra Kitchen. The talented team at Petra Kitchen will guide couples through proper knife skills, cultural recipes, local cooking techniques and more. The best part comes next: participants dine and indulge on the food they've prepared.

Take a Jeep Tour in Wadi Rum

Explore Wadi Rum, the beautiful desert along the south end of Jordan. Guests can enjoy a sand dune tour, a hot air balloon ride and more activities before taking in the starry night sky. For dinner, the camps use traditional methods to cook the meats underground.

Wadi Musa and Petra

The archaeological site can't be missed and is full of history, not just at the famous Treasury. Couples will journey though Petra, which takes about two hours to the Treasury and back, while taking in sites each way. Golf carts are available for an extra cost to get visitors to the Treasury area quicker, which is a great option for visitors looking to do Petra by Night. For the Treasury at night (extra ticket needed), follow the trail by candlelight to the light show.

Dine at Captain's Restaurant

Known for its Sayadieh, a famous dish near the Red Sea area made with fresh fish and rice, Captains is arguably the spot for delicious cultural cuisine. Sayedieh, particularly, is a popular dish in Syrian and Lebanese cultures and it's coated with plenty of delicious spices like cumin.

Float in the Dead Sea

Floating in the Dead Sea isn't only doable in Israel. Jordan has access to the Dead Sea, so you can float and experience the extra salty sea. Relax by the shore and float to the top in the buoyant water. Just keep in mind that you shouldn't spend more than a suggested 10 minutes in the water at a time to avoid getting dehydrated.
