Julia Jordan Sleeveless Twisted Halter Wide Leg Jumpsuit in Cabernet

So, you've been invited to a wedding and now you're wondering what to wear as a wedding guest. In most cases, your invitation or the couple's wedding website will include a wedding dress code. And while there are lovely wedding guest dresses for every level of formality, they're not your only outfit option. Wedding guest jumpsuits can be just as dressy and excel in the comfort department (which comes in handy on the dance floor), and are not going out of style anytime soon.

"By popular demand, jumpsuits will continue to be a trend this year," says Blaire Walsh, style director of Rent the Runway. As for what's popular in 2022, "head-to-toe monochromatic and metallic coloring, suit-like details, feminine touches and halter necklines" are qualities to look for, Walsh says. Below, we break down everything you need to know about wearing a jumpsuit to a wedding, including what's appropriate and how to accessorize. Then, keep scrolling for our favorite fancy jumpsuits—we've found cute and comfortable options for every wedding season.

In this article:

Wedding Guest Jumpsuit Q&A

You may be wondering, Is it okay to wear a jumpsuit to a wedding? It all comes down to the style and accessories—read on for our expert tips.

Can You Wear a Jumpsuit to a Wedding?

The simple answer is yes, jumpsuits are an appropriate option for wedding guests. "Jumpsuits are an effortless way to look put together and make a great alternative to gowns for weddings," explains Walsh. "With its super-modern silhouette, the jumpsuit can be dressed up or down depending on the formality of the event." Plus, they're the perfect choice if you'll be sitting through an hours-long ceremony or busting moves on the dance floor all night long.

How to Choose and Style a Wedding Guest Jumpsuit

When it comes to choosing a wedding guest jumpsuit, "it's all about style and comfort," says Walsh. She recommends looking for dressy design elements, including "exaggerated attributes like oversized bows, balloon puff sleeves and embellished or beaded details."

Paying attention to the requested wedding attire and the season of the event is important too. For example, you might want to wear a long-sleeve jumpsuit to a winter wedding—but the exact style should be based on whether you're going black tie or casual. Or, for the summer, you may prefer a lighter, more breathable fabric—especially if the ceremony is outdoors. Think about the venue as well as the weather to help you make your decision. (It also wouldn't hurt to take a glance at our guide of what not to wear to a wedding.)

Like dresses, jumpsuits are fun to accessorize. Walsh calls jumpsuits a "one and done" item—meaning accessories can really impact your look. Need some style inspiration? "Go for a sleek pair of statement earrings with an asymmetrical or high halter neckline, and simply add a complementary clutch to pull everything together," she says. As for what to wear over a jumpsuit, she suggests "trying a boyfriend blazer to chicly drape over your shoulders, versus a shawl, to achieve that ultimate French girl style." Below, we're sharing even more helpful styling tips, along with our favorite wedding guest jumpsuits.
