The Julia Ideson could not have been the more perfect venue for our wedding. The staff were great to work with and really helped in being flexible for our vendors. A very unique setting in downtown Houston that your guests will talk about for a while. Could not have gone better for us!
Absolutely beautiful building! Great staff! Newly renovated and now can be rented for events! Definitely need a wedding planner to help with all the little details, as when you rent the space, you literally only rent the space. You must supply all other details, ie. chairs, tables, bars, linens, etc.
The venue is beyond beautiful and unique. The architectural character of the building is beautiful in photos and the upstairs reading room is great for seated dinner up to about 225 people. I had a wedding ceremony in the first floor auditorium, cocktail hour in the first floor foyer and a buffet dinner on the second floor. The building is extremely clean and well maintained. The downside of this venue is that you must work with the event coordinators from the City of Houston. Their contract and service are not wedding-centric and make planning a wedding there pretty challenging.
Its an absolutely beautiful venue and can be a great space. Be sure to put some thought into the layout. Make sure you get in writing the use of the museum gallery. I was supposed to have it and didn't so it kinda of messed with the layout and led to some congestion.
The library is an unbelievable place to have your wedding reception! We were married at the Co-Cathedral and bused our guests over.
THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS YOU CAN NOT USE REAL CANDLES!!!! They used fake candles at my wedding and the effect is NOT the same... :(
