If I could change only ONE thing throughout my wedding planning process, it would be selecting Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes. If you are thinking about choosing them as your cake vendor, I would highly suggest otherwise.
First, I had to pay an additional cost to get a third party to deliver the wedding cake to the venue because Kelsey Elizabeth Cakes does not deliver. I understood this when ordering the cake, but it turned out to be extremely inconvenient.
Initially, I was told there were no cake stands available for rental and was given the measurements to purchase my own. After spending a lot of time searching with no success, I called the Rocky River store and was told they do in fact rent cake stands, but that I had to go to the Avon location to do so. When I arrived to the Avon location, I was told no cake stands were available for rental! An employee had to call the owner’s mother who told me the cake stands were in storage and that she would text me pictures of the cake stands. After never being able to view the cake stands in person, pointless driving back and forth, and HUGE communication issues, I was finally able to rent a cake stand. However, the problems only got worse.
I was told that the cake would be “perfectly fine” as long as it was on a flat surface and remained in air conditioning. I called two separate times to clarify this and made sure both were provided, and still the cake did not sustain. I told the manager in advance that my husband would be there with the professional hired help to deliver the cake at 10AM the day of the wedding. When they arrived on the day of the wedding, they were told the cake was not done! The manager told him to wait 15 minutes, but to be on the safe side, he decided to wait 35-40 minutes to ensure the cake had proper setting time. The exact transportation instructions were followed with no issues. However, the cake began to noticeably tilt right away once it was set up and progressively worsened throughout the day with large cracks and bulges. Many guests noticed and even my wedding coordinator stated the cake was unacceptable. Clearly, the cake did not have adequate setting time which caused the defects. I wish I had the ability to post the pictures on here, but there is no picture sharing feature.
After the wedding, we went the the Rocky River location and explained the situation to the manager and showed her the pictures. She seemed very sympathetic, took full responsibility, and told us that the owner commonly gives discounts for issues like ours. A couple days later, we received an email in which she described the cake as “PERFECT” and blamed anything that happened to the cake once it left the shop on us and said there was nothing she could do. After our response, she ended up giving us a 10% discount on the cake, which totaled to about $40, in a less than friendly email. I am not one to normally write negative reviews, but the way our complaints was handled was absolutely unacceptable.
