Fresh Horizons catered my wedding at the end of May 2016, but I signed a contract with them in August of 2015. The coordinator I dealt with initially was fabulous and made me feel like a valued client, but when I called to speak with her a coup...le of months before the wedding I was shocked to find out that she no longer worked with the company. This was the first sign of the bad customer service: why didn't I receive a call letting me know that my coordinator had left, allowing me some time get up to speed with another? I was automatically assigned another coordinator who was slow at returning calls and emails and never even offered to talk to me about what I envisioned for my wedding or seemed to be interested in the least.
After speaking with my wedding planners, I found out that the catering coordinator which I was assigned had done things from forgetting champagne glasses to putting an ingredient in a side dish that the bride was allergic to at the last couple of weddings they handled. Sure enough, I had a reason to get nervous when Fresh Horizons let me know about a month before the wedding that they could not serve the alcohol at my wedding venue due to a TABC licensing issue. How did they not tell me this earlier?! They knew my venue back when I signed the contract with them - and alcohol was in the contract!
We let Fresh Horizons know the final headcount when they wanted it, and then we waited and waited for an updated contract. We finally received it 6 days before the wedding for an OUTRAGEOUS amount. Our initial contract included 75 meals with unlimited beer and wine, chairs, place settings, tables and chairs for the cocktail hour, etc. for a reasonable price. After adding 18 meals, 10 chairs and place settings, and REMOVING ALL alcohol (which was priced at over $1200 in the original contract) as well as the cocktail hour furniture... the price went UP. I was outraged. I tried itemizing and adding everything up, but there were too many question marks when it came to the pricing. We sat down and had a meeting with the owner, Caryn, a few days before the event and were very upset with the way she handled the whole situation. The only itemization in the whole contract she was able to give us was the price per plate of food, and we were able to add that up and realize that we were overcharged by $200 for that portion of the contract. And throughout in all of the dealings about alcohol, we had purchased sodas and water for the bar service, but it still happened to be in the contract with Fresh Horizons. When we asked her if she would remove it because we were already providing it she told us she would remove a whole dollar. YUP, the owner of the company told us that -- we were APPALLED.
All in all, dealing with them was a horrible ordeal and I wouldn't wish the experience on anybody. Especially a bride who doesn't need any more stress in her life. If your catering company doesn't itemize everything on the contract, be wary. My assumption is that they were planning on making a certain amount of money off of my contract, and when they realized they could no longer serve the alcohol (which was their fault to begin with), they upped the pricing on everything else to make up for what they lost.
The food and service ended up good, but if you want a pleasant experience I would look elsewhere.
