Wedding Food & Drink: Pros & Cons of a Buffet Reception Meal?

Q: I've heard that a buffet is the way to go for the wedding reception dinner. What are the pros and cons?

A: The best reason to have a wedding reception buffet is that it offers your guests a full meal with the benefit of them being able to choose which foods to eat. Although you might save money on waitstaff (since guests serve themselves), having a buffet is not always less expensive than sit-down service, as you'll need to order more food than you would otherwise. You may also have to rent buffet service equipment. If you do opt for a buffet, you'll want a wedding reception manager to carefully monitor the food as it is served. You could also choose to have a T-shaped buffet, so that the line splits and goes into separate directions (to help with traffic through the line). And if you have a large number of people, you may want to consider having two separate buffet lines, to help the line move quickly.

Wedding Guests: Invite Wedding Guests for Dancing But Not Dinner?

We are trying to keep our guest list at around 175 people for cost reasons (it's the most we can afford to feed), but we certainly could have more guests -- as long as they didn't eat. Is it okay to invite people just for the dancing portion of the reception, but not the wedding ceremony or the dinner?
