If you're stumped on what to wear to a vineyard wedding, you've come to the right place. From seasonal considerations to general style advice, we're here to help you choose winery wedding attire that makes you look and feel your very best.
Consider the Terrain and Season
If the weather permits, most vineyard weddings will be outside, so it's important to know what to wear to an outdoor wedding. You'll want to keep the season and time of year in mind as well so you are dressed appropriately for the weather. "If your vineyard wedding is in the summer, go for lighter fabrics that breathe and allow you to stay cool," Barry advises. "If it's a fall or winter wedding, you might want to consider a wrap to keep cozy,especially for the outdoor moments. I particularly love any excuse to wear a cape or flowing scarf for a bit of added drama!"
Pro tip: Consider opting for shoes for walking on grass to make sure you can comfortably navigate the wedding without your heels sinking into the ground.
Keep the Dress Code in Mind
Not all vineyard weddings are the same and may vary in dress code. While vineyard weddings can be black tie soirees, they can also range from cocktail attire to dressy casual to semi-formal. The wedding invitation or website should specify the dress code so you'll know what to look for when shopping. If you're unclear on what the dress code is, you can always reach out to the couple to clarify.
Lean Into the Venue
Fashion should be fun, so we always recommend you let the event theme or venue inform your vineyard attire if you're unsure where to start. "The venue can be a great source of inspiration when choosing what to wear to a wedding," Barry shares. "Let it guide your outfit in a way that feels thoughtful and fun, whether that means leaning into a specific trend or reflecting the overall mood of the setting. That said, the best outfit is one that not only compliments the venue and theme but also makes you feel like you." Wedding guest dress trends come and go, but choosing a dress that feels true to you and your style is always the way to go.
Consider the Color and Fabric
While searching for inspiration, the colors of a vineyard wedding are a great place to start, especially if you want to change it up from your go-to little black dress. "Think of simple and timeless silhouettes in fabrics like chiffon, lace or soft silk that can move beautifully with the breeze," Barry suggests. "Since vineyards are naturally rich in earthy tones, consider soft, romantic colors like ranges of blush pinks, butter yellows or even minty-blues and lilacs. These shades complement the greenery of the backdrop and will pop beautifully in photos!" These colors also work well in men's wedding guest outfits and can be incorporated in a tie, dress shirt or even socks.
