Located in the heart of Brookline, MA is the historic Alden Castle wedding venue. Arguably the gem of Brookline, the castle has seen a long history of lively affairs and celebrations. For those with a passion for old-world beauty and charm, the castle is a marvelous spot to host a dream wedding. Alden Castle’s rich history dates all the way back to the 1920s. Originally an opulent speakeasy, the castle hosted the likes of Red Sox General Manager, Eddie Collins and the famous Babe Ruth. They regularly could be found socializing and enjoying a good old’ game of cards with a drink in hand. In more recent years the castle has entertained distinguished folks such as Robin Williams, Sarah Jessica Parker, Steven King, Jimmy Falon and Boston sports teams. The red brick castle features two distinct spaces for wedding celebrations, the Vintage Ballroom and the Modern Club. The Vintage Ballroom and Mezzanine boast delicate candle chandeliers, dangling from white victorian ceilings. Guests can enjoy spectating lavish affairs from above by wandering up to the balcony overlooking the space. There, the venues full brilliance and elaborate architecture can be thoroughly witnessed. In addition to weddings, the Vintage Ballroom and Mezzanine room has hosted numerous extravagant events including fundraising galas, films, and fashion shows. Alternatively, the Modern Club and Balcony location features luminous gold-leaf ceilings, held up by dark wood pillars. The towering windows lining the walls allow warm sunlight to pour into the space. In the evening gold chandeliers cast a warm glow on the dark mahogany wood. The bar list features top-grade liquors including Grey Goose and Patron with innovative beverages such as gluten-free Tito’s vodka. We had a total of 155 guests, I will agree with previous reviews in that the Mezzanine was tight there was not much free space to move about. The cocktail hour passed appetizers & stations, bar service/drinks, entrees and cake were all provided in house and utterly fantastic receiving copious complements from guests. We’ve also received many requests to know which bakery provided our cake, to their surprise it was from the venue. We loved not having to worry about rentals (chairs, tables, glasses, linens), vendor meals, set-up & drop offs, as Jenna took care of all of this for us. It is important to note that the venue is located at place of residence which does cause some inconveniences & restrictions to include parking, unable to do a grand exit & cannot take photos on the grounds. Despite these minor drawbacks I would choose Alden again every day without hesitation!

We also were told it would comfortably fit 180 guests in our initial tour, only to be told a few months before the wedding, that 18 tables would not leave space for a dance floor - that led to a rather stressful month waiting for RSVPs! The Mezzanine ended up being quite small for our 150 guests, and I do recommend booking the other room for cocktail hour.

Day of, the whole staff was amazing, from the chef who prepared delicious food for all our guests (even those with some tricky allergies) to Ala who stayed with us throughout the evening and made sure we always had everything we needed (including constantly full champagne glasses). We also know how hard Jenna worked for us behind the scenes, coordinating details like signature drinks. On our wedding day Jenna was present for everything big and small along with her team of Michael and Sylvia. They all truly waited on us hand and foot, beyond our expectations. Since our wedding we have had our guests comment on how great the food was more than anything else! Everything from Chef David Blessing and the staff in the kitchen was wonderful. When they forgot a cake flavor at our tasting the Chef delivered an 8in cake to our home. The space itself at Alden castle is really beautiful. The upstairs Library and Lily Room are amazing additional spaces that make for great photos as well. Alden Castle located in great part of Boston, and the elegance of ballroom, so, it is high price venue. But, it turns out that the team of coordinators didn’t provide the best service to their renters. First of all, my guests, I believe, didn’t have a chance to choose d’oeuvres they like. I ordered five different ones, and they were delicious, but it was not putting on a table. A coordinator just was passing them around on little plate one kind by one kind for about 30 min.
The biggest disappointment is many of my guests have not eaten or not even tested food of the dinner, because food was taking away without informing/announcing the guests. There was a lot of left overs, and logically, my only 25 people, my family, expected to get the rest of the food in a containers to home. None of the coordinators were even a little worry about it. I still don’t know where the rest of the food I paid went.
I also was expecting to cut my big birthday cake, and treat my precious family I invited by putting on plates of each of them, personally, but, also, didn’t have this case. Again, the team of coordinators took it from the ballroom, cut it without my permission, and passed it around on plates. We have no idea, did we eat it to last piece or not.
So, I would not recommend this venue. No one renters, wouldn't want that to happen to Birthday Anniversary.

On our wedding day, the staff was amazing and went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken cared of throughout the whole day. My husband and I were in awe to the attention to detail and service we received. She was great throughout the whole process and coordinated with our vendors. I couldn't have asked for a better team to work with to make our day extra special.

I did not have the magical experience at Alden Castle I had been hoping for. I felt like as soon as I signed the contract there, I lost any leverage. They had strict rules about outside cakes, menu, photo locations, and I did not feel like they...
tried to accommodate much. We had 3 wedding coordinators during the time between when we booked our venue and the actual wedding. On the day of the wedding, the coordinator interrupted me during dinner to tell us she was leaving and someone else was in charge. I had not been told about this plan ahead of time. We were told we could take pictures in their rose garden when we booked. Then we were told it had to be 30 mins, then 20 minutes scheduled. We agreed on a time and that time past and I asked when we would do it - as I wasn't wearing a watch on my wedding day. Oops the time passed and although I asked the coordinator, she had the photographer deliver the bad news. I was not impressed with her character. My guests in wheelchairs were told there was no elevator. There was - it was a service elevator. A guest that arrived early was told she could not use the bathroom. I wanted to take pictures in a cute little corner in their lobby and was told no on the wedding day. There was no salt and pepper on guests tables. Rookie mistakes.
The planning process was frustrating. I knew I was not their priority. They made me felt like that. We also felt nickel and dimed for everything. Cake tasting $25/pp. It was frozen cake and it was bad. So bad I accepted the outside cake cutting fee and found a decent baker. We did not have the food tasting as it was $100/pp and we only would have gotten to try 2 entrees. What if we didn't like those- pick 2 we never tried? It was weird. It's a private residence and those people pay a lot and probably complain a lot about weddings and you don't feel welcome on your wedding day. Would not recommend.

Made us feel embarassed as we would never do that. Incredibly upsetting, to say the least. We had a wonderful experience working with Alden Castle. We got married in the Vintage Ballroom, then had our cocktail hour on the balcony, and then returned to the ballroom for dinner and our reception. (If there is no other event going on, yo...
u can have your cocktail hour in the Modern Club for a small extra fee.) We met with Michelle when we first saw the venue, and once we signed the contract we were matched up with Amanda, our event coordinator. She was the perfect mix of helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. She worked with me throughout the 6 months of planning and always made time to answer an email or have a phone call with me. I never had a sense of how many other weddings Amanda had going on in those weeks/months because she really made us feel as though we were the only couple she was working with. The day of our wedding she was cool, calm and collected and took care of everything. (Your event coordinator at Alden will be with you on the day of until late in the day/evening.) There was another wedding that evening going on in the other room (the Modern Club, their slightly smaller space) and I was very nervous when I found out about that a few months before my wedding. I had wanted to get married at Alden partly because it is such a beautiful, unique venue that doesn't feel like a wedding factory. But on the day of, we wouldn't have known at all that there was another wedding going on. Alden Castle is the best of both worlds because it is a stunning, unique space that is backed by a top notch staff all around. I will also note that some people might be nervous about the pricetag at Alden, but if you add up all the amazing benefits of Alden that are included- in house catering with fantastic staff; a built in event planner; chairs, ivory linens, nice silverware, glassware, etc at no extra cost (unless you want to upgrade, but we got no pressure to do so)- I think it is a great, surprisingly affordable option. Also, the food was better than any other wedding I have ever been to- something all of our guests commented on. AND you can have REAL candles! (Unusual in Boston)

The ballroom is absolutely GORGEOUS. The bride will have a wedding attendant all night to help her - something that I found invaluable. I was never hungry or in need of a drink because I was so well taken care of =)
The food is seriously out of this world. The chef is so sweet and talented. This is not wedding food; this is 5-star restaurant food. My guests are still raving about it and it is 2 months later!
Pick this venue. The value you get for the food, the beauty of the room, the professional staff who coordinates everything to perfection, and the location is worth it.
At first I thought this venue was out of budget, but once I started exploring other options I realized that at other venues I had to order all this extra stuff. guests were from outside of Boston and it didn't seem fair to us to make them fly to Boston and then drive to some of the beautiful estates on the cape or in western Mass). When we found Alden Castle it felt too good to be true. The vintage feel with beautiful wood was both dramatic and in some ways a blank slate for any color palette. There was space to do both the ceremony and reception, and we could additionally add a second room (the club house) to do our cocktail hour. And, best of all -- it was in our budget. My only hesitation was that in looking online there weren't many weddings I could find that had the same elegant but also light and whimsical with soft neutrals feel, which I envisioned. It seemed that most brides that had booked there had used brighter colors and there were pictures of the very sculptured bouquets (some even with crystals) which was the antithesis of the look I was going for. Still, I decided that the venue wasn't the on shaping their brides' taste, so we went for it! Great choice. The staff was supportive, friendly and it was easy to work with them. The online payments are a breeze. Michelle helped us with everything booking related and was prompt and thorough in her emails. Amanda, who was our day of coordinator was flexible with me when we wanted to have a mac and cheese bar upstairs (never been done before), when we wanted the band at the back of the room by the mirrors (also rarely if ever done before), when I changed the large table and high-low ratio a thousand times, when I panicked that our guest list was too long, when I wanted the tables moved back from the dance floor a little more... Everyone there was supportive and easy to work with!
for the day of they kept things moving seamlessly. We always had food and drink and the attendant was so accommodating of our wishes!! Everyone RAVED about the food. And the mac and cheese bar was a total success. They coordinated everything with the vendors and on the day of the wedding I felt totally relaxed. The whole space glowed with our specialty ordered linens (arranged by Alden) and the candle lit atmosphere (you can use real candles!) was just gorgeous!

The whole venue was very clean and well-maintained, including the bathrooms, and it stayed a comfortable temperature despite it being a hot July day. Guests from out of town were able to valet their cars very easily, and guests coming from the Boston area found the venue to be extremely convenient (the Longwood T stop is literally across the street). Cindy and her staff also took care of calling cabs at the end of the night.
We used the Vintage Ballroom for the ceremony and reception, and the Modern Club for cocktail hour. Our 115 guests fit perfectly with enough space for a dance floor. For the ceremony, we upgraded to the partition that reached all the way to ceiling, which we would highly recommend, as it made the room look more complete. We also upgraded to include uplighting for the reception. The amber color we chose brought warmth and romance to the room during dinner and then added to the party atmosphere for dancing.
My guests raved about the beauty of the space and how delicious the food was. They were so impressed by the service and how the servers put the plates down for the whole table all at the same time. I didn’t have to worry about one thing the whole night because Cindy and her staff would remind me what was up next, or how much time I had before the next speech, and so on.
I kept saying that Cindy was my rock, because she truly was. I could ask her any questions about the wedding planning process and she always gave me her opinion or suggestions based on her experiences with other brides. She made me feel very important and special, and her organization skills helped the planning of my wedding to run so smoothly, even with me living out of state. From the moment I met Michelle (the Dir. who showed me the space), to Cindy, our fabulous and super organized wedding coordinator, right down to the entire staff during the wedding and the following day at our farewell brunch. My bridal attendant was an angel in disguise and was by my side whenever I needed anything - even ensuring I took a minute to eat something (b/c let's face it, eating is the last thing on a bride's mind when she wants to connect with everyone) My husband and I both felt that the staff went above and beyond to make our wedding perfect. Michelle & Cindy - our main points of contact - were thorough, enthusiastic, helpful, accommodating and honest. We weren't upsold on items we didn't need (i.e. another dessert, more hors d'oeuvres, etc.). the trutly best part about working with the Alden castle to plan my wedding was my planner Cindy. I am a type A person who needs to have everything plan. Specially for my very small wedding I wanted everything and everyone to be perfect. Cindy and Michelle did an amazing job creating the wedding of my dreams. Cindy was quick to answers my email and my calls. She was great help with the timeline and the planning. It was always a pleasure to meet or talk to her because this girl was always prepared. She made the planning part so easy. She was great to work with and was always honest about the cost and expectations. There were no surprises in the bill and she was great at explaining everything. Michelle made my day (September 1st) an option I didn't think I could afford. They worked within my budget and I always felt like they really understood my vision for my very small personal wedding. I really have nothing bad to say about this venue. I hope that this review helps any bride in the Boston area have a perfect wedding just like I did. I can't thank the Alden castle enough for what they did for me. All I can say is THANK YOU!!!!

as always easily accessible via email and timely and helpful in her responses to my at times frantic questions! Her responses always made me feel better. She is extremely knowledgeable at wedding planning and ensured that the event ran extremely smoothly, which it did.
We used the ballroom for the ceremony and reception and were given the modern club at no charge one month prior to the wedding for use for cocktail hour. The combination of both rooms really impressed our guests as they are both uniquely beautiful spaces. The reception set-up was absolutely breathtaking and romantic. The food was phenomenal! So many of our guests went out of their way to comment to us or our families about how delicious the food was and how exceptional the service was. We were able to dance and party until 1 AM and the bar remained open until the end. Those were two big perks of having the wedding at Alden Castle as many venues close early and have bar restrictions. The only thing to note is that it is not inexpensive to get married at Alden Castle and everything does come at a price so if you are someone on a very tight budget, it might not be the venue for you.
Otherwise, everything about it is perfect from location (close to Boston but with a suburban feel), gorgeous event spaces, excellent and experienced event coordinator and staff to help ensure the event runs smoothly, outstanding food and service, and flexibility. Overall, I highly recommend Alden Castle as the perfect venue for a magical wedding.

all of our questions were answered. They were extremely accommodating to all of our requests. The room was beautiful and the set up was stunning! And the food was FANTASTIC! We have gotten so many complements from our guests about how much they enjoyed the food and drinks from our wedding. The "house" wines are actually delicious and the food is all locally-sourced, which we appreciated. Everything was cooked perfectly and served with every attention to presentation and beautiful details. They were allergy-sensitive, too. We had a guest who needed a gluten-free dinner, another who needed a lactose-free dinner and guest with a severe peanut allergy. Their kitchen is completely peanut-free anyway, so the peanut allergy wasn't an issue at all! The whole event ran so smoothly and it was better than I could have ever dreamed. We were blown away by how amazing everything was. The whole staff was truly wonderful to work with. I would go with the Alden Castle again in a heartbeat and cannot recommend them more strongly to other brides as a reception venue!

We were told we would get the club room for cocktail hour as long as nobody booked it. We waiting until the DAY OF the deadline to hear that it was booked. I think after 75 people they should offer to give the club room for cocktail hour given that they also dont have a bridal suit and was initially going to stick us in an office room with partitioned desks all around...
