Kyle Shanahan's wife is Mandy Shanahan (formerly Amanda O'Donnell). Born on January 17, 1980, Mandy Shanahan was raised in Colorado, where she would meet her future husband. Unlike some of the more well-known NFL wives, she leads a private life and does not have any public social media accounts. Mandy Shanahan is an entrepreneur and reportedly manages her husband's professional contracts and endorsements.

How Kyle Shanahan and Mandy Shanahan Met

Kyle Shanahan and his wife Mandy met and began dating as teenagers while they were attending Cherry Creek High School in Colorado—at the time, Kyle's father Mike Shanahan was the head coach of the Denver Broncos. That said, they aren't exactly high school sweethearts. After going their separate ways for college, they reconnected a few years later and struck up a romantic relationship for a second time.

While Kyle and Mandy Shanahan keep their relationship on the down low, we can piece together key milestones from their romance. Here's a look inside the couple's relationship timeline, from the 1990s to today.

1990s: Kyle and Mandy Shanahan Meet

Kyle and Mandy Shanahan met and began dating in the 1990s when they were high school classmates. Since his father, Mike Shanahan, was also a football coach, Kyle spent his childhood moving around the US based on where his dad was working. Though he was born in Minneapolis, the Shanahan family moved to California when Mike was an offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. They relocated to Colorado after Mike landed the head coach position for the Denver Broncos—and it was there that Kyle Shanahan met Mandy at Cherry Creek High School.

2002: Kyle Shanahan and Mandy Reconnect

Kyle was a year older than Mandy, and they continued to date through the summer after her senior year ended but ultimately went their separate ways for college; she attended Colorado University, while he went on to play football at the University of Texas at Austin.

Although the two split up when Mandy went to college, they kept in touch as friends. But in a bittersweet twist of fate, a tragedy brought them back into each other's lives. Two years into her college experience, Mandy's mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 gall bladder cancer. Kyle stepped in to support his former girlfriend, often flying home from Texas to spend time with her and take her on walks.

When her mother passed away three months after her diagnosis, Mandy credited her future husband with helping her through that dark time. "He completely stunned me," Mandy told the San Francisco Chronicle in 2017. "Kyle, hands down, got me through that. After going through that with him, I couldn't imagine being with anyone else. What was so alarming to me, being that young and going through something that devastating, I realized it's not going to be the last sad thing that I go through."

2005: Kyle and Mandy Shanahan Get Married

While Mandy originally didn't want to get married young, there was no denying that Kyle was her person. Kyle and Mandy Shanahan got married on July 5, 2005, and are still happily together today. The couple celebrated their 17th anniversary in 2023.

2007-2012: Kyle and Mandy Shanahan's Children Are Born

Kyle and Mandy Shanahan have three children together. Their first child, a daughter named Stella, was born in 2007. She was joined by a brother, Carter, in 2008, and their third child Lexi was born in 2012. Not much is known about Kyle Shanahan's family, as they tend to keep their kids out of the spotlight. But one fun fact we do know is that Carter was named after Kyle's favorite rapper, Lil Wayne (who was born Dwayne Michael Carter).

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms confirmed this tidbit during an appearance on the Bleacher Report podcast—and when Lil Wayne caught wind of the news, he sent Kyle Shanahan and his son signed albums and a poster with a personalized message.

January 2020: Kyle Shanahan's Family Celebrates His NFC Championship Win

In January 2020, Kyle and Mandy Shanahan's family made a rare public appearance at the NFC Championship game, where they celebrated the San Francisco 49ers' victory over the Green Bay Packers. Ultimately, the team fell short in the Super Bowl that year to the Kansas City Chiefs. The rivals will face each other once again in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024, making it a matchup fans won't want to miss.

During a 2017 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Kyle and Mandy Shanahan gave a rare, candid look inside their lives off the field. Speaking about her husband's reputation, Mandy said, "You hear that he's hard to reach, or he's arrogant…Kyle's been one of the most sensitive people I've ever been around, in a good way. He's so in tune with people's emotions and how people feel. And that's what makes him such a gifted father and supporting husband."

As for Kyle, his priorities are simple. "There's really two things that are important to me," he explained. "And that's my family, and that's football. And that's really all the things I think about."
