Marta Kostyuk's husband, George Kyzymenko, proposed to Kostyuk in April 2023 and the pair tied the knot the following November. Their wedding took place in Cyprus, where she wore a dress designed by her clothing sponsor, Wilson, resulting in a nothing-but-ordinary wedding dress that reflected her love for tennis. This dress later inspired her Wimbledon outfit (and Wilson's "The Marta Dress"), blending her personal life and professional career in a way that captivated fans and highlighted her unique style.

Kyzymenko's suit was also designed by Wilson, which Kostyuk mentioned in an Instagram post with pictures of the couple in their wedding attire.

Who is Marta Kostyuk's Husband, George Kyzymenko?

Marta Kostyuk's husband, George Kyzymenko, doesn't have much of an online presence. From what we could dig up, it looks like Kyzymenko is five years older than his wife and also plays tennis. He proposed to Kostyuk in April 2023—you can find a cute selfie of the pair announcing their engagement on Kostyuk's Instagram.

How Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko Met

Thanks to tennis, the couple first met as kids. Kostyuk was 4 years old and Kyzymenko was 9. "I met my husband George when I was four years old, we were practicing in the same club in Ukraine. Our paths just kind of went separate ways when we were younger," Kostyuk explained in a Wilson Sporting Goods video titled The Most Technical Wedding Dress Ever. "We met again in October 2022 and a year later we got married."

Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko's Relationship Timeline

2006: Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko first meet

As we mentioned above, the tennis player met her husband-to-be when the pair played tennis at the same club in Ukraine.

January 2018: Marta Kostyuk competes at the Australian Open

Kostyuk reached the third round at the Australian Open, defeating Peng Shuai in the first round and Olivia Rogowska in the second.

September 2020: Marta Kostyuk competes at the US Open

At the US Open in 2020, Kostyuk made it to the third round, with notable wins over Daria Kasatkina and Anastasija Sevastova. She eventually lost to Naomi Osaka in a tightly contested three-set match.

October 2022: Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko reconnect as adults

Although the couple may have met when they were kids, their romance didn't begin until fairly recently. "We were practicing at the same tennis club in Kyiv when we were kids, but eventually he went to the US to study and I started playing professionally," she said in an interview with Vogue. "We weren't really in contact, but when I went back to Ukraine in 2022 he called me for a date, and, yeah—that was it. Five months later, he proposed."

April 2023: Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko get engaged

In that same interview with Vogue, Kostyuk continued her recount of the couple's relationship timeline, giving a short play-by-play of how Kyzymenko popped the question: "We just woke up together and he was like, 'Let's go watch the sunrise.' It was very weird because usually he likes to sleep in, but I had just come back from the US and was so jetlagged I was barely sleeping, so I was like, 'Okay—let's go,'" she explained. "It was really beautiful—we went to this place in Kyiv where you can really see the whole city, and I was recording something on video and as I turned around he was there on his knee."

Kostyuk also shared the news of their engagement on her Instagram account. She posted a super cute selfie of the pair, showing off her ring.

November 2023: Marta Kostyuk marries George Kyzymenko

On November 1, 2023, Marta Kostyuk and George Kyzymenko tied the knot in Cyprus. Both Kostyuk and Kyzymenko wore designs by Wilson—yes, that's right, Wilson, as in the sporting goods company. While Wilson may not be known for making wedding dresses, Joelle Michaeloff, their VP of sportswear design, collaborated with Kostyuk to create a one-of-a-kind gown.

"I got very close with Joelle since we started working together with Wilson and she's a great designer, so I thought why not? She knows what fits me, she knows what kind of body I have, and personality too," Kostyuk said in Wilson's video, The Most Technical Wedding Dress Ever.

Function was Michaeloff's main priority for Kostyuk's dress, which was the first wedding dress the sportswear VP had ever designed. "We were not thinking of tennis when we were designing her wedding dress, but because of who I am and the designer I am, in the back of my mind all I was thinking about is I'm just going to make the most technical wedding dress ever that she could play tennis in," Michaeloff explained.

"I came up with 12 different options," Michaeloff told Vogue. "Just quick pencil sketches and ideas around different necklines, different skirt types, different strap types, different materials. Eventually, we made a dress by combining sketches of three different dresses and then I just took it from there. Marta blindly trusted me, which made me a little nervous—but, I think, tells you a lot about our relationship and how we work together."

In the end, Kostyuk ended up with a gorgeous dress, reminiscent of a luxurious tennis dress. It came with a trailing, removable silk overdress that was adorned with flowers, which she wore during the ceremony and took off for the reception.

"I wanted it to be easy and really functional," Michaeloff said. "The under-bodice, though, is really what makes this one of the most technical wedding dresses ever made. It has a built-in shelf prop, much like our tennis dresses, so everything's built-in and she could jump in the ocean in this dress if she wanted to. The fabric is this gorgeous, highly technical Italian fabric with just a slight shimmer, to that it really hugged and fit her like something she could go and play a match in."

You can see the dress, along with Marta Kostyuk's husband in his Wilson suit, in a carousel of wedding photos she posted to Instagram.

July 4, 2024: Marta Kostyuk competes at Wimbledon

Kostyuk won her first two matches against Rebecca Sramkova and Daria Saville before losing in the third round. She made headlines for her unique Wilson tennis dress, which was inspired by her wedding gown.

"We kept the mini-overlayer dress, which buttons off," Michaeloff said to Vogue. "Her walkout will be with all the layers, and then she'll remove this over-dress, which is exactly like the wedding dress in that there's the five buttons down the front; I've made her a quick-release option so she can take it off fast. What's underneath is basically the original dress but with a built-in ball short in this one."

Her tennis dress eventually made it to retail at Wilson and can be purchased as either a two-piece set with the overlay or as a one-piece which includes the dress only.

Late July 2024: Marta Kostyuk represents Ukraine at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Kostyuk had a notable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing Ukraine in both singles and doubles tennis events. In the women's singles competition, she made a strong run, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Unfortunately, Kostyuk's Olympic campaign ended in the quarterfinals, where she faced Croatia's Donna Vekic. Despite a valiant effort and pushing the match to a tie-breaker in the final set, Kostyuk was ultimately defeated.

In addition to her singles performance, Kostyuk also competed in the women's doubles event alongside Dayana Yastremska, though they did not progress past the second round. Nonetheless, Kostyuk's overall showing at the Paris 2024 Olympics was a significant milestone in her career and we can't wait to see what else she achieves.
