MC Lyte Marries Marine Corps Veteran in Jamaica Wedding
Ask and you shall receive! MC Lyte announced last year during a women’s empowerment event that she was ready to receive a “yummy hubby,” and this past weekend, she did just that.
The iconic ‘90s rapper exchanged vows with her husband, Marine Corp veteran and entrepreneur John Wyche, on the sandy beaches of Montego Bay, Jamaica, before an intimate gathering of family and friends.
According to Essence, the wedding was a musical affair: Lyte walked down the aisle to the sounds of reggae Congo bands, with pal Kelly Price serenading the couple during their ceremony communion. Then, at the reception, guests danced to tunes curated by DJ Jermaine.
Attendees included Slick Rick, YoYo, Niatia “Lil Mama” Kirland, Tai Beauchamp and SWV’s Coko. “It was so beautiful,” she told the magazine. “I got my king.”
Lyte first met Wyche on Match.com months after announcing her intention to find a husband at the Wealth Experience conference in Miami (attendees prayed over her desire).
The duo’s romance quickly gathered steam, and Lyte recounted to Essence the moment she knew that she had met her husband.
“One day when we’re talking and I looked into his eyes, it was so much honesty and truth in his eyes,” she told the magazine. “My biggest thing with dating was to be vulnerable. And with him, I could totally let go and be myself.”
Wyche expressed similar amazement at how right their relationship felt, telling the magazine, “It’s incredible so many people came out to support our union. We are starting out with a strong foundation. A few months into getting to know Lana, I knew I wanted this woman as my wife.”
