Samira Wiley Tells Us Why the Processional Was One of the Most Unique Elements From Her Wedding to Lauren Morelli
Confetti was king at Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli’s Palm Springs wedding, but the entrance was most unique. The Orange Is The New Black actress and Morelli, a writer for the show, wed this past March in a scenic, confetti-theme wedding in the California desert.
“We had a Funfetti-theme wedding,” Wiley tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “My favorite detail from that wedding turned into confetti everywhere. We had a confetti canon. It’s literally exactly what it sounds like. It shoots thousands of pieces of confetti right after the beat drops. It’s amazing.”
There were personalized elements sprinkled throughout the wedding. “We wrote our own vows,” says Wiley, who most recently appeared on The Handmaid’s Tale. “But one of the most unique things about our wedding was that we didn’t process down a traditional aisle. We processed in together holding hands.”
Here's 1/1000th of how excited we are today.

The couple’s venue, Colony 29, nestled in the foothills of the Indian Canyons and the San Jacinto Mountains, was conducive to the heartwarming moment. “Our ceremony was in the round— in a spiral—so when we walked the aisle, we were able to walk past every single guest,” Wiley says. “And I don’t even think we knew at the time that it was going to be that wonderful.”
According to reports, the pair walked down their spiral aisle without bouquets. With their free hands, they high-fived and greeted guests to the tune of “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles. The person to perform the song was OITNB actress Danielle Brooks.

Following the nuptials, the couple set off for nearby Disneyland, where they enjoyed a couple days in the park. “I love Disney so much and they love me now. Hopefully!” she says. “The larger part of our honeymoon was going to Italy. We’re here for American Express’s Pay It Plan It—that feature would’ve been so helpful with us planning our honeymoon, to be able to put larger things like flights on the future.”
In retrospect, there is one essential from the day that she’s glad she enjoyed. “I had a BLT before I walked the aisle,” Wiley says, “and that was great.”
