If you want your wedding to be screen-free, or even if you don't, incorporating wedding disposable cameras into your big day can be a great way for you and your guests to capture many of the special off-the-cuff moments that your wedding photographer may have missed. "There may even be moments unseen to the newlyweds that can be surprising to them later," says Jacequelyn Aleece, owner and founder of The Wedding Plan & Company. Of course, disposable cameras should not, and do not, replace the work of a professional photographer, who you can easily find on The Knot Vendor Marketplace.

If you're looking to add disposable cameras into your wedding reception, but don't know where to start, we've come to the right place. In addition to Aleece, we tapped wedding planner Tracie Morris of You're The Bride and Amy Lynn Parmar, founder and lead wedding planner of Poppy + Lynn for some tips about how to most effectively incorporate disposable cameras into wedding activities and their wedding disposable camera recommendations. Read on for some disposable camera ideas for weddings from real events in addition to some of our favorites that you can add to your cart whenever you're ready.

How Many Disposable Cameras Do You Need for a Wedding?

"I love the idea of having one disposable camera per table of eight to 10 people," says Aleece. If having disposable cameras on each table doesn't match your aesthetic, Parmar suggests having "one at each major touchpoint (gift table, by the bar, etc)."

Although you don't have to necessarily buy disposable cameras for your wedding in bulk, it can't hurt, especially if you have a higher guest count. "A pack of 10 for a guest count of 150 is a good rule of thumb," says Parmar. "Don't feel like you need to go overboard." Your guests aren't expected to have their wedding photography skills perfected, and disposable cameras are a good way for them to practice while having fun.

Wedding Disposable Camera Tips

If you want to successfully integrate disposable cameras into your celebration, here are a couple of tips to keep in mind.

Don't Go Overboard

Whilst you can have as many disposable cameras at your wedding as you'd like, having many isn't always necessary and may not be the most effective. "A safe count would be one per 10-15 guests," says Parmar. After all, you don't want to end up spending too much money on disposable cameras for some guests to get wrapped up in the excitement of your day and forget to use them.

Incorporate Them With Intention

Although you can incorporate disposable cameras into your wedding in any way that makes you feel most comfortable, Parmar recommends doing so with intention. One way you can do this is by electing some guests as photographers. "In the past, I've seen couples give prompts to guests to try to capture specific things or just to give inspiration," says Parmar. "When you just place cameras around the space, a lot of times they end up being forgotten or overlooked-–so I would make sure people know they are there and let them know they have a purpose!" You could also play a wedding game such as "I Spy" to help guide your guests' photography.

Add Photo Development to Your Wedding Gift Wish List

You may find that having to develop all of the photos taken by your guests after the wedding will add up. If someone asks how they can be of help to you during your wedding or asks you what kinds of gifts would be the most appreciated, you can bring up the idea of being in charge of developing the photos taken on the disposable cameras. "You could ask them if they don't mind developing them for you that way, they can be ready when you get back from your honeymoon," says Morris. Don't forget to upload the photos to your social media (with a creative photo dump caption) and to your wedding website for your guests (and those who couldn't make it) to enjoy.
