Ali Wentworth, wife of George Stephanopoulos, is an actress, comedian, author and producer. Born on January 12, 1965 in Washington, DC, Wentworth grew up in a politically connected family—which often colors her work with humor about politics and society. She has appeared in numerous television shows and films, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Oprah Winfrey Show and the cult classic, Office Space.
Beyond acting, Wentworth has made her mark as a writer, having penned several novels. Go Ask Ali and Ali's Well that Ends Well highlight her witty storytelling and keen perspective on life's absurdities.
In one of her more recent projects, Wentworth collaborated with Stephanopoulos and partner Alyssa Mastromonaco to create their production company, BedBy8. Their team recently produced the limited docuseries, Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, which chronicles Shields' rise to fame and her experience as a highly-sexualized teen.

How George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth Met

George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth met in a way that could easily be the plot of a 2000's rom-com. Their introduction came about through a mutual friend who actually used to date Stephanopoulos, when Ali was set up on a blind date with George.
"I grew up in DC around politics, so this was not sexy to me," Wentworth said in a 2018 interview with People. She's referring to the career Stephanopoulos had before he became a television host, when he was a political commentator and Democratic advisor.
Despite her initial reservations, the chemistry between them was undeniable from the start.
According to an interview with The New York Times, Stephanopoulos was completely smitten. "You know how when you go on a date and the first 15 minutes are on automatic pilot? About 15 minutes in, she just leaned in and said something, and we were suddenly in another place, in another universe, immediately," he explained. "We went from strangers to friends to being in love in days."
Their meeting quickly turned into a whirlwind romance, leading to their engagement just two months after meeting.

The couple first connected on a blind date. An ex-girlfriend of Stephanopoulos and friend of Wentworth set it up.
"I had a birthday party, all girls, and everyone said, 'You know, you have to start dating, Ali.' And I said, 'You know what, I live in LA, it's either agents or actors—I'm not interested,' " Wentworth said on The Tonight Show in 2017. "One of them said, 'You should go out with my old boyfriend, George Stephanopoulos.' And I said, 'No, thank you.'"
Eventually she agreed, not knowing she was about to have her first date with her future husband.

On November 20, 2023, Wentworth sent a video to Good Morning America in celebration of her and Stephanopoulos' 22nd anniversary. It was both heartfelt and funny, in true Wentworth fashion.

After their first date, it only took two months for the couple to get engaged.
According to People, Stephanopoulos popped the question while the couple were on a trip together in Greece.
"We planned a trip to Greece, and I had a ring made, and I think she knew," he said. "I did know!" George Stephanopoulos' wife added. "I knew that you had the ring made because you were meeting your cousin for breakfast, and he was a jeweler. I knew it was in your backpack!"
"Even that felt like, tick tock mister. What's the hold up?" she recalled in another interview. "I was just like, let's get married. Let's start our lives together."

In a 2023 interview with People, the married couple recounted the details of their wedding on November 20, 2001. "George and I had a traditional Greek wedding, which included Greek dancing," Wentworth said.
"One of my favorite memories from that event was watching these circles of people we loved, arm-in-arm, kicking their legs up to Greek music — the director Mike Nichols next to George's grandmother next to an 8-year-old flower girl next to my college roommate."

The Good Morning America host and his wife share two children, daughters Elliott (21) and Harper (18). Like many parents, they chose to keep their daughters out of the public eye while they were growing up.
In an interview with People, the couple discussed how he and his wife "balance each other out" when it comes to parenting.
"[He's] more of the disciplinarian...but I'm the shopper. I'm the indulger," Wentworth said. "But it works. He's organized in terms of family schedules, his schedule, my schedule, what's happening any given day. I have the pantry organized, and our underwear drawer is impeccable."
