Sabrina Carpenter's most recent boyfriend was Barry Keoghan. The two first sparked romance rumors at the end of 2023, when they were photographed on a few dinner dates in Los Angeles. They attended W Magazine's Grammys party in February, and the brand coyly soft-launched their romance by sharing a photo of the famous couple posing together on Instagram. That spring, he was spotted supporting her in the crowd when she was an opening act at the Eras Tour, and by May, the pair made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala.

Things continued to heat up in June, when Keoghan starred in the music video for her song "Please, Please, Please," with Carpenter belting lyrics poking fun at him, saying, "Don't bring me to tеars when I just did my makeup so nice / Heartbreak is one thing, my ego's another / I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherf—."

Alas, the relationship only lasted for about a year. In December 2024, People reported that the couple split just after the one-year anniversary of their first date. While Carpenter had previously told The Guardian that working with Keoghan on their music video was "one of the best experiences I've ever had," the scathing lyrics of her song "Manchild" allegedly seem to tell a different story…but we'll let the TikTok lyric theorists run with that claim.

Before she was linked to Keoghan, Sabrina Carpenter briefly dated Shawn Mendes in early 2023. Rumors began swirling after Us Weekly shared photos of the singers strolling around Los Angeles together in February. The following month, cameras captured them leaving Miley Cyrus' album release party around the same time, tipping fans off to a potential romance. A few weeks later, a source confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the two were indeed dating, saying, "They have been hanging out a lot and trying to keep things low-key."

The relationship didn't last very long, though, and Mendes ultimately reunited with his on-again, off-again girlfriend Camila Cabello (of Fifth Harmony fame). Fans believe that Carpenter threw shade at Mendes in her song "Taste" thanks to the following lyrics, which seemingly address a flame going back to their previous relationship: "I heard you're back together and if that's true / You'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you."

During a December 2024 appearance on John Mayer's podcast, Mendes subtly addressed his alleged mention in the song. "It's a funny feeling to feel like you're being written about and maybe the whole picture is not being expressed," he said. Although he admitted that it "sucks," he added, "I wouldn't stop myself from falling in love with another songwriter."

Joshua Bassett

If you weren't locked into the Sabrina Carpenter x Joshua Bassett x Olivia Rodrigo love triangle, were you even on the internet? The trio sparked plenty of buzz in 2020 for their dramatic involvement, which all began when Carpenter started dating Bassett shortly after he broke up with Rodrigo. Their fling inspired Rodrigo's smash hit song "drivers licence," which led Carpenter to make her own response, "Skin." Bassett joined in too, releasing his own song on the matter, titled "Crisis."

All things considered, Carpenter and Bassett only dated for a few months in 2020. The following year, Bassett told GQ he was single. They started dating in 2014, which she confirmed in an interview with J-14 Magazine. "[It was a] really unique way to ask someone out," she said about the start of their relationship. "[It was] like the pirate movies, like, they do the little bottles and they put notes in them and send them across the ocean, like one of those, and [he] put a note inside. It was cute."
