"This shape represents that what's old is new again, as its history dates back to the 18th century," says Ann Grimmett, VP of Merchandising at Jared Jewelers. "It also represents the rising interest in elongated fancy-cut diamonds, which have been growing rapidly over the past few years." Grimmett estimates that Selena Gomez's engagement ring could be about 6 carats and worth approximately $225,000.
Because of its unique elongated shape, some jewelers predict this may be one of the top engagement ring trends of 2025. "We're seeing many of our clients prioritizing personalization and one-of-a-kind designs. They want something special, a ring not everybody else has," explains Jillian Sassone, founder of Marrow Fine. "Unlike rounds, each marquise cut has its own unique character in terms of proportions and length-to-width ratio, making sourcing them feel like a true treasure hunt."
