Wedding Food & Drink: Should We Offer a Kids' Reception Meal?

Q: We have many children attending our wedding reception, some as young as four and five years old. Do they need to get the same reception meal as the adult guests or can I arrange children's meals for them?

A: You should definitely consider offering a reception meal option just for children. It may save you a chunk of change, and little kids are going to prefer chicken nuggets to chicken a l'orange anyway! Talk to your reception site manager or wedding caterer about your options. Many places provide special meals for children that cost half the price. If this is not a common practice for them, perhaps they will be willing to split a few adult meals in half for your smaller guests, or make them otherwise kid-friendly -- putting slices of filet mignon between a couple of pieces of bread, for example.

I have a wedding budget that allows for about 150 guests, but my fiance and I have so many friends that our current list already exceeds 250! I keep looking at it and just can't cut any names without feeling terrible. How can we trim our wedding guest list without the guilt?
