Compared to the first half of 2024, online resale platform Poshmark saw more than a 50% rise in searches for groom's suits in the first half of 2025. The trend is not specific to Poshmark: Used men's suits are on the rise across the board. "A major driver of this trend is the rising cost of weddings for both grooms and guests," explains Poshmark's associate director of communications, Mallory Smith. "Whether it's a groom looking for a specific designer suit at a fraction of the price, or a guest attending multiple events in one season, more people are turning to secondhand options to save money without sacrificing style."

Affordable suits and affordable tuxedos are nice, but it's not just the financial aspect that's sparking the rise in used suits; guys (and grooms) are becoming more mindful and intentional in how they shop in general. "There's a growing awareness that formalwear is often worn only once or twice, so buying preloved makes both financial and practical sense," Smith says. "At the same time, the cultural shift toward sustainability has made secondhand suiting not just cost-effective, but also a responsible and thoughtful choice."

So yes, it's smart and sustainable to shop for secondhand men's suits and suit separates, but there's even one more reason to explore suit consignment: Finding diamonds in the rough. "Buying secondhand opens the door to unique, vintage or limited-edition pieces that sometimes aren't available in stores anymore," Smith says. If you're a groom with unique style or out-of-the-box suit ideas, resale men's suits may be the way to go.

Here, we highlight the top six places to buy suits secondhand, and offer tips for buyers and sellers alike at each. Then, we talk best practices: Smith weighs in on how to find exactly what you're looking for when it comes to men's used suits.

Where to Buy and Sell Used Men's Suits

Women's resale platforms are a dime a dozen across the internet, but when it comes to where to buy used tuxedos and suits for men, shoppers have to dig a little deeper. Fear not, we've done the legwork for you. Here are our favorite places to buy suits secondhand.

Where to find secondhand suits and used tuxedos for sale: eBay | Grailed | Menswear Market | Poshmark | Thrifted | Vestiaire Collective

    eBay

For buyers: eBay was the first big player in the online resale game, so you know they've got it down to a science. The site is well-organized and easy to search by suiting category—there are used tuxedos for sale, double-breasted suits, three-piece suits and so on—so if you know what you're looking for, you'll find it easily. Buyers can bid on items auction-style or filter their search to show only "buy it now" options. There's enough inventory to price compare: We found full tuxedos for less than $150, a Hugo Boss velvet dinner jacket for less than $100, and both modern and vintage pieces.

For sellers: With this much inventory, pricing and the way you list is paramount. Be intentional in how you photograph your suits, and be as specific as possible in your product descriptions. If you're not in a rush to sell, you can list a starting price and have buyers bid to get more for your items; if you are in a rush, list a firm price and offer the "buy it now" option.

    Grailed

For buyers: Think of Grailed as the grittier, edgier littler brother to Poshmark. The site offers just as much, if not more, menswear than womenswear (rare in the world of resale), and though its specialty leans toward streetwear, there are diamond-in-the-rough suiting options as well, including pieces by Comme des Garçons, Gucci x Tom Ford and even Suitsupply. The inventory changes daily, so be sure to keep tabs on what you're looking for, but rest assured, there's no fee for buyers, and the site promises to be good about refunds if something is amiss (so long as the transaction is through PayPal). Psst, while you're on the site, find some cool sneakers to style with your suit.

For sellers: There's no charge or fee to post your items for resale, but if and when they sell, Grailed takes a 9% commission fee. Factor that into your pricing structure from the get-go, and the process is easy. Users can buy and sell from the Grailed app or online.

    Menswear Market

For buyers: This platform started out of the founder's apartment in 2011 and has grown into a global marketplace by keeping its inventory top-of-the-line. You can buy a used tuxedo or suit in near-perfect condition and with high-end detailing. Note that pricing is higher here than many other resale marketplaces, but that's largely due to the quality control: The vendor only accepts pieces from approved brands and sellers and also gets overstock inventory from some retailers. You'll find pieces by Brunello Cucinelli, Gucci, Robert Graham, J.Crew, Stefano Ricci and many more.

For sellers: Listings are handled by the platform; once you're approved, all you have to do is ship off your items with a prepaid label and wait for the kickback as items sell. Sellers receive around 70% of the resale price.

    Poshmark

For buyers: "Poshmark stands out because of its simple and social shopping experience and trusted community," Smith says, and she isn't kidding: The platform boasts 150 million users. "We offer buyer protection, fast shipping and the ability to bundle items to save more. Plus, you can connect directly with sellers to ask questions and even negotiate prices, so you get both great value and peace of mind." Not to mention the selection is impressively curated; you'll find labels like Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and The Kooples, among others.

For sellers: Smith recommends doing your research and pricing strategically for best results. "Do a quick search to see what similar suits are selling for, then price competitively," she says. "Leave some room for negotiation, as many Poshmark buyers like to make offers. You can also use tools like 'Offer to Likers' to drive more interest once your listing has some traction."

    Thrifted

For buyers: Thrifted has a specific POV, and that is vintage—so grooms with an old-school air, this one's for you. Sizes are converted to modern sizing where necessary, so shop by your actual size. And if you don't love it, returns are accepted on used suits for men and other items. Ship your item back within 30 days for a refund; the buyer just pays postage.

For sellers: The London-based brand doesn't actually allow users to sell on its site; all the procurement of used men's designer suits, curation, quality checks and listings are done internally.

    Vestiaire Collective

For buyers: Vestiaire specializes in luxury fashion resale, so here's where to look if you have a particular high-end designer in mind for your suiting (think Dolce & Gabbana, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent). The platform has a reputation for quality control and product authentication, so you can feel good about what you're purchasing.

For sellers: On Vestiaire, sellers can list their own pieces, communicate with sellers and ship with prepaid labels; or, through the platform's VIP consignment program, they can turn in their pieces and have Vestiaire handle the sale.

Tips for Buying Used Suits and Tuxedos

You can find used suits for sale in many corners of the internet, but knowing what to look for and how to approach the sale is paramount to getting a high-quality product. Smith helps us break down exactly how to shop for men's used dress suits.

    Use Search Tools

On Poshmark, there are advanced filters to help narrow your search. "Start by entering keywords like the brand name—for example, Hugo Boss suit—and color; from there, use filters to select your size, condition and price range," Smith suggests. "For best results, try variations of your search terms, like 'suit jacket,' 'blazer' or 'two-piece suit,' to see the widest range of options." Each resale platform will have its own variations on search, so take some time getting to know the site and how best to utilize its search capabilities.

    Find Your Anchor Piece

On some sites where you can shop men's suits secondhand, you'll find complete looks—or at least pants and a jacket sold together. On others, you may need to piece together the full look. In that case, Smith suggests honing in on one piece you're really drawn to and working around it. "For shoppers who want to build a suit themselves, start with one anchor piece you love, like a blazer, and look for complementary fabrics and colors," she says. Use this as an opportunity to get creative with styling.

    Check Measurements

"[Look] for measurements, don't rely on just the tag size," Smith says. "Suit sizing varies by brand and can change with wear or tailoring, so always compare the listed measurements to your best-fitting suit or body measurements." If the exact measurements aren't listed, reach out to the seller to ask for them. Don't skip this step: Suit fit is the single most important factor in looking sharp.

    Zoom In

The more photos included with a listing, the better, but don't just take them at face value—feel free to zoom in. "Examine seller photos and descriptions carefully," Smith says. "Pay close attention to any signs of wear, like pilling or missing buttons." If possible, read the labels and tags. "Look for natural fibers like wool, cotton or linen for the best quality."

    Ask Questions

"Don't hesitate to message the seller for more details," Smith says. On Poshmark, buyers can reach out directly to the seller; on other sites, they may communicate with the curators. Either way, you're entitled to ask for more information when purchasing used tuxedos, suits or anything secondhand.

    Negotiate

Sites like Poshmark and eBay allow shoppers to place bids or make offers directly to the seller. Use this to your advantage: Often, sellers are looking to offload their items and will agree to a lower price. Be respectful in your offers, but know that negotiation is part of the game.

    Plan for Alterations

Just like when buying brand-new, you will likely need some suit alterations to make gently used men's suits fit perfectly. Factor that cost into your overall budget. Secondhand plus alterations shakes out to be much closer to the tuxedo rental cost than the cost of purchasing new—but this way, you get to keep the goods.
