About this vendor
Salt Lick BBQ is a wedding catering company based in Driftwood, TX. The business has a long and storied history and has been part of the fabric of the community for generations.
Owner Scott Roberts's great-grandmother, Bettie Howard, moved to Driftwood from Mississippi in 1867. She and her husband, James, took a boat from Biloxi to Indianola and then continued by wagon to Driftwood. Along the way, Bettie seared and then slow-cooked their meat over coals. It's the same method that Scott and his team use today. The Howard and Roberts families have served countless satisfied customers over the years. The Salt Lick BBQ team would love to use their considerable talent and passion for great food to help make your wedding celebration an event for the ages.
Salt Lick BBQ proudly serves the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Austin areas. Family-style barbecue is their specialty. Their menu includes all-you-can-eat beef brisket, pork ribs, bison ribs, sausage, turkey, and chicken, and they never use MSG. If you're looking for delicious food, Hill Country hospitality, and authentic Texas flair, it doesn't get any better than Salt Lick BBQ!

Salt Lick nailed it as our full service catering for the brunch the day after my husband and I’s wedding this past April. They did an incredible job, providing excellent food and service for our guests. Thank you Salt Lick for making this brunch so memorable!
We were so lucky to have found this venue right after COVID hit! We met with Lauren in the summer 2020 and fell in love immediately! It was everything we ever wanted! It’s off this beautiful creek in the hill country and the inside is spacious with twinkling lights and beautiful chandeliers! We live in Indiana so working Lauren was great! She helped us every step of the way!
We got married at Pecan Grove and it was absolutely gorgeous - the wildflowers, oaks, fields, and creek are stunning and true Texas nature. The venue itself shines with its twinkle lights which I adore and is the perfect rustic texas feel but could easily be decorated to meet anyone's decor/aesthetic. The bridal sweet with a kitchenette is well decorated and spacious - a perfect spot for getting ready pictures and the staff planners (Carson and Rachel) and day of (Bobby B.) were all incredible - quick to answer emails, helpful, and very kind day of! Of course we all know the BBQ is divine (and now you can have the excuse to get it each anniversary!) and with almost all of our guests coming from out of state the Salt Lick is the place to bring them in Texas - a true destination wedding minutes outside Austin. I was honestly blown away by the diversity of their menu and offerings. The appetizers - especially the cowboy caviar were delicious and the bar offerings (margaritas, cocktails and god bless texas beer!) were wonderful. Salt Lick to my surprise was also one of the first caterers that offered a whole list of VEGAN options - and they were so incredible I ordered one for myself on the day of and took home leftovers from our tasting! Don't be surprised though if some of your guests drop their normal vegan or vegetarian lifestyles though when they hear it is Salt Lick - we had to make a few extra phone calls to double check no one clicked the wrong button on their RSVP but each time heard the response "I'm not a vegetarian at the Salt Lick!". I highly recommend the Salt Lick, beautiful venue, great staff, simplifies wedding planning by having catering, bar, venue, chairs, etc. all from one vendor and you know the food is going to be incredible - what other restaurant or caterer deals with the volume of customers the Salt Lick does on any given night - they are experts at events!
This review is long-overdue. When my husband and I were looking for a wedding venue, we researched several places around the country. There were spreadsheets and pro/con lists, and The Salt Lick was the clear winner. We both met in Texas, but live in New Jersey, and have family all over, so we needed something central. Not to mention the fact that The Salt Lick is our favorite Texas BBQ. From the beginning, everyone at the venue was so helpful and responsive, particularly since we were planning from afar. We chose Thurman's Mansion for our big day. We worked with Samantha, Carson, and Callie, and all of them were great - from the catering, to figuring out the open bar, to the ceremony and reception set up, to working with our vendors, and answering all of our many questions. We were able to set up our rehearsal for the day before, which went great. The day of, we were greeted with some snacks in our rooms where we got ready, as well as gifts (including some really comfy t-shirts). We had a good portion of the upstairs of the mansion to get ready (aside from their office space, which we were told before and was understandable), so we had plenty of room for our hair and makeup team, as well as other space for further preparations. We worked with the team before to set up the reception area, using a program provided by them where we could lay everything out. And everything was set up perfectly the day of. The ceremony was beautiful. The reception was so fun - the food was delicious, from the hors d'oeuvres, to the dinner, to the desserts (we had so many of our guests compliment the food, especially the BBQ), and the bartenders were great. (The Salt Lick was also able to accommodate several changes we requested to the alcohol menu, which we really appreciated.) We rented the festoon lights, as well as 2 cornhole games. Those were a hit, too. We could not have asked for a better place to host the best day of our lives. Thank you, Salt Lick and Thurman's Mansion!
We could not have been happier with this venue. It was the perfect location for two men getting married in Texas. From the moment we first walked in on our venue tour we both knew we had found the perfect place. Carson and her team went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect, and it truly was. The room and the ceremony site have a very special feel about them, and we were so happy. Our out of town guests from LA, and NYC were blown away by the beauty and charm of this location. The Salt Lick catering team made sure to deliver the most special wedding meal. We ate BBQ like kings!!
Pictures don’t do this venue justice. I loved everything about my wedding here. I had contact with several different people within the role of wedding coordinator, but they each were so easy to work with. The staff was easy going and my guests still keep talking about the food. The groom and I knew we loved the salt lick food, so we were excited to share with family and friends. We added hatch green Chile Mac and cheese to our menu, and that was AMAZING. I wish I could order it at the restaurant.
We got married at Pecan Grove and had a wonderful experience working with this venue. This is a naturally gorgeous venue that is always well kept regardless of what season it is which allowed us to save money and keep decorations pretty simple...pretty much floral centerpieces, candles, some cute signs and family photos, done! Rachel was very responsive to all of our questions leading up to the big day and all the staff we encountered were incredibly helpful and professional. We had both the ceremony and reception here so were able to utilize the bridal suite. The space was perfect for getting ready and for being able to step away and have a quick quiet moment with my husband during the festivities. Some of our family has had salt lick bbq before so were already thrilled that they were catering, but it was a special treat for our family who came from out of town. We kept hearing how full everyone was and that they went back for 2nds and 3rds!! We actually had more food that we needed due to some last minute cancellations but they allowed us to take the rest home. being extremely picky if i had to say anything not so great... I could not for the life of me find a place to hang my gown in the bridal suite. There was a clothing rack that would fit regular length clothes but could not find a high enough hook to keep it off the ground. My guess is that maybe it was there i just couldnt find it, but if it wasnt there i would suggest they add that. I ended up handing my dress on the top of one of the french doors. It also got pretty warm in there, but not sure they could have controlled it that much as there was a lot of people coming in and out. the reception area was temp controlled and very cool though. This was the first and only venue we looked at. Love at first site! Would certainly use again in the future
We held the reception here for our son and his bride's wedding. Our coordinator Rachel made it so easy since it was a destination wedding. Once the decorations were done the room was transformed into a beautiful venue. The food was so fabulous and the staff and servers were fantastic. I highly recommend Thurman's Mansion. You can also have the ceremony there and the veranda and grounds are gorgeous.
I had my wedding here on 10/20/18 and worked with Carson during the planning process and on the day of our wedding. She responded to all of my emails extremely promptly - almost always within a couple hours! - and was very patient with me and my millions of questions. The day went off without a hitch and everyone had an amazing time. Our guests all went crazy for the BBQ and it was a memorable wedding for us and for our out-of-town guests. I want to get re-married here every year!! Thank you, Salt Lick team!!
We had an amazing experience at Pecan Grove; I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful, affordable, and breath-taking venue. Rachel was extremely helpful, working with our planner, to get everything in order so I didn't freak out the day of. Our guests will not stop talking about how perfect the night was. Also, can't beat Salt Lick for dinner (I'm not a huge BBQ fan so the chef came up with a herb chicken as an option and it was equally delicious).
Everything was perfect. We got married on 9/30/18 at the Pecan Grove. I will say if you plan on getting married anywhere in Austin, this is the place. It was very affordable, AND the food was amazing. Salt Lick is a staple in Austin. All the staff was helpful. The site coordinator (Rachel Agin) was amazing and always very responsive.
I saw another review who was unhappy on the way it looks, but I will say it depends on when you go and how you decorate it. We were very simple with our decorations (mason jar flowers with 3 votives around the table as centerpieces and a table runner down the middle – that’s it) and it was amazing. The chandeliers and lighting were perfect, and I didn’t need to be extra. Externally I felt like a princess walking towards the arch and my goodness it was amazing. We just had flowers on the arch and I have seen some people leave it bare (your choice) I think it is beautiful either way.
My guests RAVED about the food and ate SO MUCH. They couldn’t stop talking about how perfect my wedding was with the location, the food, and everything else. I’ve gotten comments like “This is probably the prettiest wedding I have been to” and “I went back for 3rds”.
I will say none of this would have been possible without the incredible staff. They were very patient with us, and there were a few things that I was going to get charged extra for, but they didn’t. They didn’t rush us out, and made sure we were comfortable and told us to leave whenever we were ready to. So, it was a hectic night but we got to enjoy every moment of it.
Here is a link to my wedding video, I am not shy to share it because it was amazingly beautiful. https://vimeo.com/293017813/description
What can we say! wedding venue of the year!! We were married in August and from day one of choosing pecan groove we where in constant contact with our coordinator. the venue is beautiful the staff was top notch. food was amazing and so many different options not just bbq. appetizers were fantastic as well as top notch bar service. I cannot say enough of how well it was organized. WEDDING VENUE OF THE YEAR!
We had our wedding at the Pecan Grove this past July and it was absolutely incredible. Our coordinator, Carson Saldivar was amazing. She was always on top of things and was very easy to get a hold of. She was nothing but kind and helpful and made the day run so smooth! We were very grateful for her. The food was delicious, but that was no surprise coming from the Salt Lick. They had great selections for wine and appetizers as well. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and able to fit a very large group. The bridal and groom suites were spacious and had great interior design. I really cannot imagine getting married anywhere else!
Salt Lick catered my son's rehearsal dinner at another venue. I worked with Callie Lewis and Salt Lick to get the menu set and the timing nailed down. Callie answered all of our questions quickly and professionally. When we arrived at the venue the catering staff was set up and ready to go. They said to let them know when we were ready to be served. After everyone arrived I gave them the go ahead. We chose Family Style and 3 meats with sides. Each table had an abundance of BBQ and it was replenished as soon as it was eaten. The catering staff at the venue checked with me all evening long to make sure things were the way we wanted them. We could not have been happier with our choice of Salt Lick as our caterers. If you are getting married in Central Texas and want to share BBQ with your guests I highly recommend Salt Lick.
I organized my stepdaughters wedding at Pecan Grove with Samantha Conley via email/phone and she was amazing. My stepdaughter chose the venue for its simplistic style, beautiful outdoor surroundings and of course the food! Nobody was disappointed, everything went without a hitch thanks to the experience of Samantha & John the banquet captain. If you are looking for a Texan style, casual wedding with an abundance of delicious bbq this is the place. I will say the venue is very spacious, we had 118 guests and the ambience was perfect for us but I think for less than that amount it could begin to feel a bit too spacious possibly?
I cannot say enough nice things about Thurman's Mansion (one of the Salt Lick venues) and especially Carson Saldivar. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone. You don't have to worry about hiring a caterer as Salt Lick makes the food on-site. Many of our guests were from out of town and we loved providing them the best BBQ in the world! Our guests told us it was the best food they ever had at a wedding. The hill country views from the venue were spectacular. Carson, Adrian, and the rest of the Thurman's Mansion staff did an amazing job and worked really hard to make our wedding beautiful and easy for us to plan. They were easy going and went out of their way to accommodate all of our crazy questions and requests. We had an amazing time! Thank you Thurman's Mansion, the Salt Lick and Carson!
Our reception at Salt Lick Cellars was absolutely beautiful! It was such a wonderful day, the food was great, the service excellent!
Thurman's was the perfect venue for us! We loved its size, the beautiful view and the well-situated ceremony site. We served their famous Salt Lick BBQ and our guests loved it! The appetizers were great, the bar package was perfect, the service was timely. I had so much fun at my wedding-they helped to make it possible.
I got married last month at Pecan Grove and it was the PERFECT wedding location. The ceremony area is beautiful and the reception space was perfect for my 185 person wedding. The food is unbelievable, and all the staff were so friendly and great to work with. All of our guests continue to compliment the location of our wedding, and we are so thankful that we found a space that truly reflects our personality. If you are looking for an elegant but hill country laid back vibe, this venue is perfect! The staff were quick to get back with us and definitely answered our questions throughout the planning months to make us feel on top of the process at all times. Loved it!
The venue was beautiful and everything I could have wanted being an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception. Having the venue, catering and bar services in the same place made the whole decision process that much easier. Plus the food was AMAZING! Our guests have been talking about it for days afterward. The venue coordinator was always helpful and I appreciated that. I wish they would not have put a concrete slab down on the ceremony site without at least letting me know but I understand why they had to do it. Thank you Pecan Grove!
Haley was awesome to work with! She patiently answered all my questions and was a true professional! I felt so confident in my choice of Salt Lick to cater my wedding at Mercury Hall. We had tons of food, and the ribs were amazing! People keep telling me how much they enjoyed the food. The peace of mind I had in Salt Lick, was worth every penny spent. The week before the wedding I changed my mind and added on some appetizers and she was able to accommodate me with ease.
Had our rehearsal at Salt Lick and it was perfect!! Perfect size for 60-70 people and the food was well absolutely the best. They didn't stop bring food and we even left with leftovers! Totally have your rehearsal here if you are getting married in Dripping Springs!
Salt Lick was the obvious first choice for us for our 111-person two-groom January wedding at Mercury Hall in Austin for a bunch of reasons: they make the best barbecue on the planet; our non-Texan guests, in particular, needed barbecue; they had done an awesome job with my sister's wedding a few years before; just about everything is gluten-free (especially important for our two guests with celiac); and they have great vegetarian options. Haley Mlinac worked with us to put together the perfect buffet, with brisket, sausage, grilled vegetables, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, iced tea, and stuffed poblanos for the vegetarian option--as well as the bar service, which Haley coordinated through Third Generation Bar Services. In addition to all of the amazing food--which was a huge hit with our guests--they also did an excellent job with breakdown and cleanup service. We also ended up with a ton of delicious leftovers, which was awesome for continuing to feed our out-of-town guests throughout the rest of the weekend.
Pecan Grove was an absolutely unforgettable venue to get married. All of our guests could not believe how beautiful Pecan Grove was and many commented that it was the best wedding food they have ever had. We planned our wedding from out of state and could not have been more pleased with the level of service the wedding coordinators provided. Everything went perfectly and we are so very happy we chose this magical place to get married.
I planned my wedding in Austin, Texas while I lived in Phoenix, Arizona. It was crazy, but the PG coordinators were very helpful and answered all questions I had very quickly. They were prompt and respectful. The venue is GORGEOUS (in the summer) which makes other decor unnecessary. Ceremony was outdoors and reception was the A/C indoors (umm.. because August.. in Austin.. so much sweat!).
Food was yummy and the event staff was very helpful and kind.
My biggest complaint is the price of food/drink. You have to spend a minimum of $6000 and this total does NOT include alcohol. Initially this was not made clear and I budgeted $6000 for food, drinks, and alcohol. Less than one month out this was clarified for me, so they honored the original understanding, which was nice. The complaint comes from the cost of alcohol packages. The alcohol vendor is called Third Generation Bar Services and they're just greedy in my opinion. There were so many extra charges for bar setups, tear down, paying individual bar tenders $35/hour, requirements for at least 2 bar tenders per bar and x number of bars if you have x number of people. It was ridiculous. When you averaged it out, we were paying $10/drink for cheap beer and one white and one red wine. Ultimately, we ended up not paying for our guests drinks because it was so far out of our budget and I couldn't justify spending $3000 on Bud Light and generic wine. That's ridiculous and greedy. We went with a cash bar where guests could buy a drink if they wanted, but that still cost us $1300.
Other than this interaction and ridiculous pricing, I loved getting married at Pecan Grove. It was our dream day and absolutely gorgeous!!
This review is for the Salt Lick - not the venue. The Salt Lick catered my spring wedding and the food was amazing. I heard nothing but good things from all guests, many being from out of town and enjoying Texas BBQ for the first time. I also owe many thanks to Callie, the event coordinator for the Salt Lick. She put up with me and my husband for almost a year! She had given us multiple different quotes and even had to redo our invoice a few times due to our indecision. She NEVER complained. She was great to work with! Thank you to both Callie and the Salt Lick!
We had The Salt Lick cater our daughter's wedding and our guests proclaimed it the best wedding food ever. Our coordinator Callie made sure that every detail was covered and was so very conscientious about keeping us informed and up to date. We visited for a tasting, even though we knew the BBQ was awesome, and were really impressed with the selection of appetizers. Our guests loved the eggplant stuffed mushrooms, caprese salad skewers and stuffed tomatoes. Lonnie and Michael came to our venue and made sure that all 150 of our guests were well-fed and happy. The BBQ and sides were perfection - of course, it was The Salt Lick! At the end of the evening they packed up the remaining food and even packaged individual meals for the bride and groom and both sets of parents. We were delighted with the food and service provided by The Salt Lick.
We canceled our wedding at Pecan Grove because the photos they sent are not representative of the actual venue. The classy stone walkway is covered by a wooden deck, the natural interior is pained over grey and white, those big clear windows are actually warped, synthetic material, and the ceremony site is on top of a swamp with a drainage pipe less than 15 yards away. To top it all off, we specifically asked if the venue was close to any highways that would disrupt a ceremony with noise. Their coordinator Carson assured us that it was not, but when we arrived we saw that the venue and ceremony site is less than 60 yards from a major roadway. Who wants to say "I do" with cars and trucks whizzing by at 55mph every few seconds?
We live in California now, but my fiance went to college in the Austin area and has been to the Salt Lick restaurant many times so we had no reason not to trust the photos. On their website, their brochure, and even extra photos we requested by email--everything looked beautiful so we booked sight unseen about 13 months out.
We visited a month later and canceled as soon as we saw the venue. It wasn't even close to the photos they sent. The worst part was the way we were treated after this. We were disappointed that Salt Lick wouldn't return any of the non-refundable deposit, even though we canceled 12 months before the date and especially after sharing with them how we felt the pictures were not a true representation of their location as well as their proximity to a rather noisy highway.
After emailing or calling the Salt Lick nearly every day for a month, we were finally able to negotiate a refund of half of our deposit. That's still a sizable portion of our budget that we will not have for our wedding all because The Salt Lick mislead us into a contract that severely limited our rights. We couldn't be more displeased with the way we were treated by the Salt Lick employees, specifically Maile, Carson, and Analisa. We would not recommend this venue to anyone.
This review is far overdue! My good friend got married at Thurman Mansion last spring (2014) and I was a bridesmaid in the wedding. I actually helped her pick the perfect spot for her wedding and let me tell you--this did not end up being it! The bride lives in Dallas and I live in Houston and so I was helping her look at locations in Austin and San Antonio. After a couple of months of looking, we landed on Thurman Mansion and she fell in love with pictures online, AND mainly the fact that it was catered by her favorite BBQ place--The Salt Lick.
We had planned to meet in Austin and look at the venue together but we had to push back looking a couple of times because of our work schedules, anyway, long story short we didn't get to do a site visit before she could sign the contract. Why you ask? Why would she sign the contract without doing a site visit? Well, she had told her intended wedding date to the contact at Thurman Mansion and eventually my friend was told that someone else was interested in her date. So, she signed the contract intending to visit two weeks later.
When we arrived, the venue was not NEARLY as nice as the pictures. In a word, disappointing. It was all over the bride's face. We thought that maybe, since the wedding was still 8 months out that they could work with us as far as her getting the return of her deposit, etc, even though she had already signed a contract that stated there was a non refundable deposit. But, they were VERY clear about the fact that her contract was binding and they wouldn't be returning any of her deposit even if another couple booked the date.
My friend had a fairly moderate budget for her wedding and so she decided to have the wedding there anyway. Unfortunately, after what had transpired at her site visit, everyone she and I dealt with for the planning process were terrible. No one every got back to us, I'm talking we had to call and leave messages and email and wouldn't receive a call back for two weeks or more (which is unacceptable). The wedding day itself was a happy affair, but with no thanks to ANY OF THE STAFF at this venue. Brides beware of the great reviews of this place, they are very much falling short of The Salt Lick name and are not true representatives of Texas' warm and welcoming hospitality.
I had my wedding here this past October and couldn't have been happier. Hands down this was the best decision we made when planning our wedding. The process was simple, the coordinator was very attentive, and the location was absolutely stunning! All night our guests kept complimenting the venue and asking how we found this gem. The setups in the reception hall and the outdoor wedding space were perfect. There was plenty of room for the guests to move around freely and the grounds were well lit at night to help people walk off all the food and find a quiet break from all the dancing. The spread was top notch and I still receive compliments on having the best food at a wedding. The staff were courteous and very accommodating, and our bartender was friendly and extremely helpful during my pre-wedding jitters. The value for the price can't be beat. Looking at my wedding pictures and the beautiful backdrops, I am so glad we picked the Salt Lick Pecan Grove!
The Caterers were friendly, the set up was clean and organized, and the food was incredible! What more could one ask for?! Not one of our guests had a complaint!
Pecan Grove offered a completely perfect event space and food provider for my wedding. But the best kept secret is Carson, the venue coordinator. She went above and beyond to solve a missing cake issue, and was helpful with all my crazy questions the month leading up. As far as Pecan Grove goes, it was completely beautiful and includes pretty much everything! Chairs, tables, outdoor seating, etc. They also have add-ons like extra bars and cocktail tables, outdoor games, etc. The whole event ran like a well-oiled machine and I didn't worry about anything all night. Pecan Grove is a hidden gem in the Hill Country, so book it ASAP.
I could spend paragraphs and paragraphs talking about the food but I'll say this: we invited a lot of people with very sophisticated palates, and they RAVED about the food. The BBQ buffet was a huge hit, but also the passed appetizers were incredible and creative and well prepared. Also they came out immediately!
This is a wonderful venue. I'm thrilled it was where my wedding took place!
Our July wedding at Thurman's Mansion was absolutely beautiful. From start to finish, we were so happy with our choice in venue. We started out in the lovely and spacious dressing rooms. We had fantastic weather under the big oak tree and looked out over the green lawns and vineyards, which provided the perfect backdrop for some amazing photo ops. The staff were professional, yet enthusiastic and made us all feel special. The Salt Lick BBQ, was, of course, delicious and a huge crowd pleaser.
The only hiccup in the night was that the bar package we had selected was not the one that was provided. Key parts of the wine menu were changed or missing. It was a bit disappointing that our wedding suffered from a miscommunication between the Salt Lick and their bar services. However, I will say that the staff handled the mistake beautifully. They were sincerely apologetic and comped part of the bar bill for us.
Overall, we had a beautiful night and it would not have been the same anywhere else! A true classy Texas evening!
Katie and Thurman’s Mansion did an INCREDIBLE job for our wedding on Saturday (06/14/14)! I was planning our Austin/Driftwood wedding from Virginia so I didn’t have an opportunity to meet Katie in person until several days before the wedding. However, she was professional and easy to work with via telephone and email. The food (Salt Lick BBQ) was outstanding and the venue looked great. We were fortunate with the weather and even had a cool breeze at the time of the ceremony. That is certainly a lucky thing for June! The cocktail hour and reception went off without a hitch. Adrian and the other banquet staff members were fantastic. Guests all commented on how good the BBQ was but knowing Salt Lick, we expected no less! Thanks Katie and your entire team for making our wedding so memorable!
We got married at Thurman's Mansion a few weeks ago and could not have been more pleased with the venue, staff and especially the coordinator, Carson. Carson was absolutely a joy to work with and you can tell she really cares about her clients. This venue provides linens, food, bar, even entertainment if you want it- all for a fairly reasonable price. It made wedding planning SO easy and Carson is willing to help with answering even the strangest of questions. I wouldn't do a single thing different. Carson and the event staff were amazing!!
From beginning to end, Salt Lick was a joy to work with. We hired them to cater our wedding reception for about 125 people and they could not have been more perfect.
The Salt Lick team answered our initial inquiry immediately and made short work of getting us acquainted with their operation and our options for our event. They were flexible and professional enough to accommodate almost every detail -- dietary restrictions, serving presentation, day-of logistics, and the list goes on.
With a long engagement, it was almost a year between our first contact with them and the actual wedding. During that time, we dealt with three different coordinators (due to new hiring and employee vacations) and while that could have been a total nightmare, they managed the hand-off of our event with grace and without anything falling through the cracks. Our final event coordinator Callie Hill was definitely the most wonderful to work with. Before putting in the final order, we went to their Driftwood location for a tasting and lunch. The catering and restaurant staff treated us and our parents amazingly well, brought us extra goodies, and answered all the questions we had. It really felt like red carpet treatment months before we event had our wedding.
As for the food: if you've eaten Salt Lick before, you know how truly amazing their BBQ is. And we're happy to report that their catered fare is not lacking one iota in quality! The catering team arrived with their grill/smoker in tow and the BBQ that they put out on the buffet line was as good as any I believe I've ever had. They provided the perfect meal for our reception with the most amazing, professional service and our guests just couldn't stop telling us how much they enjoyed the meal. Aside from the amazing food, they were in and out so smoothly and neatly that I was astonished. They arrived early and set up in a flash, cleaned up quickly and thoroughly, and even gave us some leftovers which we and our friends devoured after a few drinks at the after-party :)
In conclusion: incredible, professional admin and catering staff who are willing to accommodate almost any request; and of course WORLD CLASS BBQ. I simply could not recommend Salt Lick catering highly enough.
We had nothing but compliments about our catering. My husband and I have been eating there all during college and it was beyond perfect for our big day. From the passed appetizers to the dinner it was all perfect. We even had a guest order it for the Labor Day holiday and shipped over 200 miles because he loved it so much. I think that speaks for itself.
My husband and I (along with the rest of the world) love salt lick BBQ. I had a picture of an easy, fun, BBQ wedding and salt lick really delivered! It was much more affordable than a few of the other venues we looked at as well. The Salt Lick has two private event venues and you can also cater the nationally famous BBQ. We chose the pecan grove pavilion because we had a very large wedding (~300) and we were going for a relaxed vibe. The Thurman's Mansion is the other place and is really nice too. We had an outdoor creek side wedding and reception in the air conditioned (important for a June wedding in TX) pavilion. During the entire planning process, Ashley, our on-site coordinator was so helpful and a joy to work with. Suffice it to say, all our guests had a blast and the food was amazing! It was great to find an all-in-one venue that had chairs, tables, food, venue, and even did our table flower arrangements! If only it had been closer to Austin, where most of our guests stayed. That was remedied with a shuttle service we hired. Couldn't recommend this place enough!
If you are getting married in the hill country I highly recommend using The Salt Lick as your caterer! We had some very prestigious BBQ eaters coming to our wedding, and every single one of them was super impressed with how delicious the BBQ was! Definitely cannot go wrong with them!
The caterers were excellent and very polite. The food was excellent!
We has a country themed wedding so what better place to have our rehearsal dinner! SALT LICK!!! We had 50+ people on a Sat night at the Salt Lick. They were helpful and the staff was great. Our out of town family and friends were blown away. Thanks for making our wedding weekend awesome. Recommending them to any bride wanting a stress free evening. OH AND BYOB... WHATS BETTER?? :)
The food was everything you would expect from The Salt Lick and more. The staff was easy to work with and the event coordinator was on her game. They are an amazing establishment. If only I had known how many options they had to have the actual ceremony there! Oh well, I am thinking that when the time comes, I can have a baby shower there to make up for it. Great job to their team!
We knew without a doubt we wanted BBQ at our reception. So my mom and I didn't bother checking out other caterers outside that genre. I am used to Rudy's and never like it that much, plus they were a little bit more expensive. We went to check out Salt Lick in Driftwood and it was SO good. The price for catering was decent, and they are out at our venue all the time. So we picked the option with brisket, ribs and sausage. At the reception there was SO much food and people were piling their plates high then going back for seconds. That's one of the things we heard about most after the wedding, was how awesome the BBQ was. One of my regrets was being too busy to actually get to enjoy my plate :( I definitely recommend Salt Lick for a wedding reception, or any event, and I can't wait until I'm back in the area and can go back!
The Salt Lick was the perfect place to have our Texas style rehearsal dinner. We were given a private room for our party of 50, and our servers were kind, quick and accomodating. The food was delicious - true to the taste of Texas BBQ my husband was wanting to share with our friends and family!
Went here for our rehearsal dinner and it was great. Great service and great food. Best BBQ in the country! Best part is you can bring your own alcohol!
The venue and surrounding grounds were beautiful, and the coordinator Ashley made things run so smoothly! The food was incredible; I got so many compliments on how the food was the best wedding food they ever had.
I called Salt Lick a week before the rehearsal dinner to make reservations for 20, and they told me they do not take reservations until the say of. So the day rolls around and we call when they first opened and they tried to tell us they don't take same day reservations. They finally took it, but when we showed up, it was lost. Thankfully they were able to accommodate all 20 of us within 5 or 10 minutes. They are cash only at the Driftwood location, but have an ATM on site.
Our wedding was last night, and it was absolutely beautiful. The venue is gorgeous, and the weather was as perfect as it could be in light of the recent heat wave in Texas. We opted for the regular Salt lick BBQ menu, and all of our guests marveled at how great the food was, as well as how beautiful the venue was.
Our coordinator at Thurman's Mansion was Annette Yates. She was great. We cannot stress enough how much she contributed to the overall success of the event. We had several problems stemming from some oversight on our part, and Annette rolled with them and came up with some great solutions. She was onsite for the entire event, and did a wonderful job coordinating with the various vendors to ensure that everyone had a great time.
Thanks again to Annette, and everyone at Thurman's Mansion for making our special day a great success!
The venue is beautiful and everything we had hoped for. The catering staff did a fantastic job and we are still getting compliments from our guests about the food.
Thurmans mansion is a great place and price to have a wedding! Stunning views overlooking a vineyard in the hill country! Chef Michael and staff did an amazing job on our food and service! We had so many people tell us that it was the best wedding food they had ever had! Thank you Tana Kent, Chef Michael and staff for helping make our wedding day so amazing!
The food is great- very Texas for the out of town guests. The venue is beautiful and rustic.;The banquet managers did not do what they were suppose (provide hand wipes for guests) to and were very rude to guests. The wedding manager did provide me with gift certificates to the Salt Lick.
It had a great yard to get married in. The deck was great it went along the entire building where we held our cocktail hour. The inside is very nice little decoration is needed.;There are not many trees. We went with the upgraded food and was extremely disappointed.
I loved that they took care of all the details. Once we decided to have our reception at the Salt Lick we simply had to choose the center pieces (oil lamp, candels, or fresh flowers in a clear vase or a boot!). It saved so many headaches and worries about coordinating the venue with the caterer with the florist because at this site they were all the same! The whole room was already decorated with twinkle lights and the huge windows revealing the green lawn and trees were just lovely. Also, our DJ and cake lady already knew the location and had no problems getting there/set-up. Additionally, the Salt Lick is BYOB and so we were able to have kegs of beer delivered, get some box wine from Sam's and hire a bartender for much less than other sites would charge for a bar set-up fee.;If it happens to rain on your day, the restrooms are in a seperate building from the main hall. There is a trellis covering the walk and a stand full of umbrellas at the door, but its still a trip out in the rain. We banked on July in Texas being dry as usual and we had no problems.
We had our reception at Thurman's Mansion at The Salt Lick in Driftwood TX. It is an old mansion with a huge back porch a beautiful green lawn and it over looks a vineyard. It was a sit down dinner as opposed to the buffet style that the pavilion at Salt Lick has which was a lot more formal for our reception and if you have ever eaten at Salt Lick you know it is FANTASTIC!
This location is perfect for any couple looking for a Hill Country wedding. The mansion is beautiful on the inside and out. The area where the ceremony takes place is on the beautiful green lawn with wine vineyards in the back. Lots of trees show up in the background and there are lots of old buildings for picture opportunities. One of the reasons we love our pictures so much is because of the location! The food is excellent! Most of our guests claim it is the best BBQ they have ever had. They serve it family style at your table so there are no buffet lines but it is still all you can eat! Perfect! I would recommend this place to anyone!!;They limit you to 125 people and then start charging you $50 a person.
The hill country landscape was beautiful. Very laid back natural atmosphere.;difficult for some to find
It was a beautifal representation of the texas hill country. It reminded me and my family of Oklahoma. The food was excellent and it was a BYOB venue.
