Built in 1914, Union Station Kansas City was a fully operational railway station for over half of a century. Closed in the 1980s, the property was abandoned and nearly demolished before it was saved in 1996 by a bi-state funding initiative. Fully restored in 1999, the station now dazzles visitors with its 95-foot ceiling, 3,500-pound chandeliers, and six-foot-wide clock that hangs from the central arch. Original and restored architectural elements are unparalleled to any other location in the city.
