Hotel Rwanda's Don Cheadle Quietly Married His Partner of 28 Years
After nearly three decades in partnership, Hotel Rwanda star Don Cheadle and wife Bridgid Coulter are officially married. The Iron Man actor revealed his relationship status update on the Ellen DeGeneres Show while chatting with Wanda Sykes, who was guest hosting the show on Wednesday, July 1.
"You texted me at the top of the year… and you told me that you just got married," Sykes said. "And I was like, 'Oh damn, the pandemic got to Don and Bridgid.'"
As she recollected the conversation, Sykes said she replied: "'What the hell happened, man?' I think I just texted something back, like, 'Hey, if you're happy, I'm happy for you.' …I was like, 'Cheadle went Hollywood.'"
"I mean, that's understandable given that we've been together 28 years before we got married," Cheadle said on the program. "I hold you blameless."
Though the news was announced formally this week, Cheadle has dropped hints in the last year that he had married his longtime partner. In February, Cheadle posted a candid photo of Coulter curled up on a couch with a series of hashtags in the caption, including "wifey" and "wife."
On Mother's Day 2020, Cheadle also posted a tribute to his wife with the words, "I'm all in." He wrote, "Of course a BIG happy mama's to this gangsta right here!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 27 years and i STILL can't read when she flopped a set!!! Love you to the moon and back again, girl. i'm ALL IN!!"
Coulter and Cheadle first started dating in 1992. Since then, they've welcomed two daughters, Ayana and Imani.
