Chris Soules is a bachelor no more! The 33 year-old Bachelor star proposed to 29 year-old fertility nurse Whitney Bischoff during the show's finale, after sending runner-up Becca Tilley home.
"Becca is in a different place in her life compared to where I am," Chris tells
People. "That doesn't make it a bad thing, and it didn't change how I felt about her, but it's about trying to find the person that you can see in your life and that you have the best chance of making it work forever with. My sister said, 'You're not looking for a girlfriend, you're looking for a wife.' That's the truth."
So, the Iowa native and corn farmer
proposed to Bischoff (where else?) in his freezing-cold Arlington barn. (Seriously, everyone's breath was visible!) He said:
"Everything has boiled down to right here. …. I love you so much, I really do, and I'm so scared right now... From the moment that I met you, from the moment you got out of the limo. [I thought], 'This woman is perfect for me.' Being able to have you here today and being able to have you here in Iowa, meeting my family and seeing how they reacted to you, there are so many things about you that I am excited about. It's not work for us. It's natural. We both want the same thing, and it feels so right. It feels so perfect. And that's what I want for the rest of my life. I love you."
But luckily, the only ice involved in the proposal was the massive Neil Lane engagement ring that Bischoff happily accepted. As you can see in the video below, the 4-carat emerald-cut stone is seriously stunning. Not only does the handmade diamond and platinum design feature high-clarity diamonds, but there are actually 115 of them on the ring, to be exact.
"He had certainty about the girl, and he had certainty with the ring," Neil Lane told People. "Once he weighed the options and milled it over, he made his decision and he was certain. This particular ring has the strength of the emerald-cut diamond, which is a very sophisticated, beautiful stone, but then we have a sweetness with the little flourish of diamonds around the central diamond, which makes it feminine."
Well done, Chris!
"She was the person I could see myself with," Soules says. "Whitney is my soulmate. It became even more clear at the end. It just felt right."
And while Whitney's getting ready to adjust to life on the farm, Chris is also ready to be a dad -- and compete in the upcoming season of
Dancing With the Stars!
So when will they have time to start planning a wedding (that we're pretty positive will also take place in the barn and have rustic accents)?
"I don't think you can put a time limit on something like that. When we feel it, it will happen," Bischoff says.
"We had this great love story that now we get to build upon and start a new love story in real life," Soules adds.
What do you think of Chris's engagement ring choice, Knotties?
