My now husband and I were very cautious to ever write this review, but at the end of the day think that if someone could have saved us the trouble we would have been eternally grateful. When my now husband and I first got engaged we were filled... with all of the same giddiness and glow that most couples experience. The newness of the ring on my left hand served as an ever-present reminder that so many bright and beautiful things were to come. Within weeks of our engagement we began the exciting conversation with our families about our wedding. We decided on a winter wedding, staying relatively local to our Massachusetts home, and somewhere guests could ski if they wanted. The only daunting thing to us: actually designing and executing the wedding of our dreams.
After reading an article in The Knott about a winter themed Vermont wedding in early 2020, and upon viewing her website we decided that Kate Dawson was the most likely person to pull
this event off. Boy, were we wrong. The “courtship” process of hiring Kate Dawson Events was a very different experience by the day. Some days she was on it, had lots of great ideas and made us feel like our event would be safely cared for under her stewardship. Other time she was sporadic, difficult to pin down, late to meetings, and disrespectful of our time. When it came
time to move into the contract phase with our venue Kate was unfortunately very off her game. We needed an extension for the contract with the venue so that our attorney could take a look, and Kate never reached out. The venue followed up with us and we had to chase Kate down to follow up with them.
She then let us know that she “harassed the venue coordinator on her cell” and an extension shouldn’t be an issue. She did not come prepared to meetings, and added little to no value to the process. Worst of all when it came time to negotiate the venue
contract (which would cost us upwards of $70K in total; no small amount) she declined to meet with us prior to the scheduled meeting to gain a united perspective. She actively negotiated
against us in the contract negotiation, and then decided that we were not the type of client that she nor any of “her vendors” could work with. We went our separate ways.
When hiring vendors for your wedding you want them to be on your team. Kate couldn’t even keep up with meeting invites, I doubt she would be able to coordinate an event (especially not a $120K Wedding). If you are looking to pay someone to take the stress of wedding planning off of your plate, I would choose literally anyone else. Kate Dawson was all sizzle, no steak.
