Caroline Wozniacki’s 8.8-Carat Engagement Ring: All the Exclusive Details
Tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki’s engagement to NBA free agent David Lee captivated the world last week for more than one reason—and the lingering focus remains on the sheer size and quality of the sparkling stone she’s now wearing on that finger.
The future bride shared her joyous engagement news with fans by posting a ring selfie from her romantic getaway to Bora Bora. Wozniacki expressed that it was “happiest day” of her life and she was ecstatic to marry her soulmate.
The ring, a large oval diamond set on a diamond pave band, was shaped and designed by New York City-based jeweler Hamra Diamonds. “We designed the ring with David’s input [expressing] Caroline’s ideas,” founder Joey Hamra tells The Knot in an exclusive interview. “She liked the diamond band look, [but didn’t want] it to take away any focus from the main center diamond.”
The jeweler revealed details about the mesmerizing piece shortly after the couple announced their engagement. "The ring is super unique in the fact that it totals at 8.88 carats," Hamra tells us. "It was a focus when we were making the ring and originally sourcing the diamond. The reason it was so important is because 8 is Caroline’s favorite number… David really wanted to make sure we got that done."

On Instagram, Hamra shared a few images of the oval-cut stone set on “pointy claw-like prongs” to give the diamond an overall elegant appearance. "The center diamond is a D color and flawless in clarity," he notes to The Knot. "So we had the diamonds on the band shipped in from our overseas suppliers to be handpicked under microscopes." Hence, the small diamonds dotting the band match the center stone in color and quality.
"It's absolutely the nicest and perfectly made oval I have ever seen to this day," Hamra notes. He added on Instagram, “It is the perfect stone for this perfect awesome couple."

Lee, who previously played for the San Antonio Spurs, also took to Instagram to share the exciting news. “She said YES!" the athlete expressed. "So thrilled to be engaged to my soulmate!”
Other stars to sport oval-shape engagement rings include Blake Lively, Ashley Greene, Julianne Hough, and more. "In an oval, I would say to aim for the highest color you can get for the budget you have allotted to spend," Hamra concludes. "The reason I say this is because ovals are faceted where it's easier to have the imperfections blend well with the facets of the stone."
This will be the first marriage for both Lee and Wozniacki, who was previously engaged to golfer Rory McIlroy.
