Inside Justin and Emily Baldoni's Engagement
When it came time for Justin Baldoni to propose to his now-wife, he took it all the way back to the beginning. The actor popped the question at Blu Jam Cafe—and the 30-minute video documenting the lavish engagement has since racked up over 14 million views on YouTube. "On April 13th I proposed to my girlfriend Emily at the restaurant where we had our first date," Baldoni captioned the clip. "I told her I was running late, had the restaurant opened just for her, and set up hidden cameras all around her. When she sat down at the table, there was a TV in front of her set to take her on a journey that would lead to the proposal of a lifetime."
That journey included a short film with lip-syncing, flash mobs, and a montage showcasing their favorite memories together. It also featured footage of Justin getting ready for their "dinner date," saying, "I'm trying to propose. And, you know, my mind being the way it is I could think of a million different ways that I want to do it. But all I know is that I want it to be special and I want it to be romantic and I want it to be something that you never forget."
He then walked into the restaurant, where he dropped to one knee. Emily happily accepted, and the fiancés were joined by their family to celebrate. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight after the engagement, Emily said, "I just kept telling myself, 'This is not a proposal! This is not a proposal! It's something else. He's the master of surprises. The master."
Justin and Emily Baldoni's Wedding Details
The couple wasted no time on planning their big day. Just three months after their engagement, Justin Baldoni and his wife Emily got married in Corona, California. The wedding took place on July 27, 2013, at a rustic outdoor venue. Paper lanterns hung between trees, while clusters of baby's breath wrapped around the branches to create a whimsical, other-worldly decor effect.
Full Frame Cinema captured the Baldoni wedding and shared the trailer on YouTube. In the emotional clip, Baldoni recites heartfelt vows to his wife. "I want to start off my vows to you with an apology: I'm sorry for all my faults, my shortcomings, my insecurities and my ego and for everything that I've ever done or said that's hurt you and everything that I've brought to this relationship that hasn't been pure," he says. "With that apology also comes a promise. Emily, for the rest of my life, I will cherish you, I will appreciate you, I will listen to you, I will laugh with you [and] I will take care of you."
The groom wore a summery tan suit for the big day, while the bride opted for a flowy white dress with a flower crown. Baldoni joked about the size of his wedding party in an Instagram post reflecting on the event, saying, "Yes, it may have seemed like I had 45 groomsmen in my wedding party, but I love these men with all my heart. I'm so grateful for each one of these: super-handsome, (slightly shorter [than] me), emotionally available, vulnerable, and dependable manly-men. And yes, that's my dad next to me leading the way."
On their eleventh anniversary in 2024, Baldoni opened up about how they've kept their relationship going strong after so many years together. "People always ask what the secret is to our marriage. I don't always have an answer, but as we celebrated our 11th anniversary last night over a beautiful dinner in Stockholm, one thing we kept coming back to, aside from our shared faith (which for us is the most important thing), was our gratitude for choosing each other," he wrote. "We chose someone who is on a lifelong search for growth, who never stops being curious, who stays accountable, and who never, ever gives up…no matter how far the world tries to pull us apart, each of those things brings us back together like glue."
He concluded, "I'm so grateful that I get to choose to wake up every day and love this woman. But after 11 years of marriage, what has made things so sweet, and what has allowed our relationship to get better and better over time is the fact that I don't just love her… I also like her. Like, a lot."

Considering their love of movies, it was a fitting choice for Justin Baldoni and his wife to announce their first pregnancy by creating a short film (much like the one he made for their engagement). Justin and Emily Baldoni's daughter, Maiya Grace, was born on June 27, 2015. She became a big sister in 2017 with the birth of their son, Maxwell Roland-Samuel. Fittingly, they announced that pregnancy with a sequel to their first video, titled Justin and Emily: The Surprise Part 2.
The proud parents opened up about their kids in a 2019 cover story for Mini magazine, where Baldoni raved about his wife. "I hope they grow up and have much more of her than me," he said, before adding, "But I hope they have my sense of humor because I'm definitely funnier." Emily concurred, saying, "Justin has an incredible way of bringing magic to the smallest moments. The kids' eyes light up whenever he comes into the room."
