While the average wedding cake cost comes in under $1,000, an elaborately crafted confection might cost a pretty penny that can put a major dampener in a couple's wedding budget. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that some extravagant wedding cakes have actually cost a whopping eight figures. Celebrities, royals and wealthy couples commission celebratory pastries that are adorned with many tiers, gold leaf details and actual diamonds—which can seriously increase the price tag of their cake cutting. While we are aware of a few of these luxury cakes thanks to wedding articles in magazines and newspapers, we have a feeling that some billionaires regularly ask for cakes that are thousands of dollars or more for their expensive weddings.

1. Debbie Wingham Runway Show Cake: $74 Million

One of the most expensive wedding cakes ever made was created by British designer Debbie Wingham for an anonymous buyer in the United Arab Emirates. Created for an engagement party that also doubled as a birthday party for the bride, the cake features a runway show with a six-foot-long runway and sculpted figurines depicting the runway show guests. Weighing at 1,000 pounds, this sizable cake didn't get such a hefty price from the amount of flour used. Instead, the cake was covered in 4,000 real diamonds, including a 5.2-carat pink diamond, a 6.4-carat yellow diamond and 15 five-carat diamonds.
2. National Gay Wedding Show Cake: $52.7 Million
In honor of the National Gay Wedding Show in 2013, a cake was made in Chester, England that was priced at a whopping $52.7 million. The eight-tiered confection was given a high price tag thanks to the diamonds used to decorate the otherwise simple white cake.
3. Luxury Bridal Show Cake: $20 Million
A wedding cake made for a luxury bridal show would likely have a large price but this one takes the cake. At the Beverly Hills Luxury 2006 Bridal Show, a cake was created by Nahid Parsa of La Patisserie Artistique with a cost of $20 million. The nine-tier cake was brushed with gold flakes on the bottom and also had large diamonds that studded the pastry from top to bottom.

4. Kate Middleton and Prince William: $80,000

Kate Middleton and Prince William had one of the biggest weddings of the 21st century with their grand nuptials on April 29, 2011. Baker Fiona Cairns crafted an eight-tier confection that followed British royal tradition by filling the interior with fruit cake. The expensive wedding cake wasn't easy for royal staff to transport either. The large cake was reported to weigh 220 pounds. The pastry was adorned with more than 900 frosted details, including the couple's initials, the national flowers of England and other architectural elements.
5. Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka'oir: $75,000
For their 2017 wedding in Florida, Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka'oir had a whopping 10-foot cake to fit their grand multi-million dollar celebration at the Four Seasons Miami. Designed by Edda's Cake Designs in South Florida, the four-tier cake was embellished with 8,000 handmade sugar flowers and over 2,500 Swarovski crystals to resemble a grand chandelier for their diamonds and crystals wedding theme. Mane ended up cutting into the extravagant wedding cake with a sword since it was such a large confection. The pricey pastry was made with red velvet, amaretto, carrot, banana nuts and Jamaican rum flavors.
6. Princess Diana and Prince Charles: $71,600

The iconic cake for Princess Diana and Prince Charles' 1981 wedding was priced at around £56,000, which comes in at around $71,600 today. The five-tier masterpiece was famous for its height and details of royal emblems. The overall cost of the wedding was estimated at $48 million at the time.
7. Liza Minnelli and David Gest: $40,000
Liza Minnelli would never shy away from being extravagant so it makes sense that her wedding cake for her 2002 nuptials to Broadway producer David Gest cost $40,000. The huge black and white cake was a whopping 12 tiers and featured plenty of purple and red florals and sterling silver leaves.
8. Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian: $20,000
While the marriage wasn't the longest, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' wedding cake made history with its high price tag. In 2011, celebrity baker Patrick Hansen crafted an eight-foot-tall, 600-pound marble cake for the famous couple's big day. The eight-tier, chocolate and vanilla cake also made a statement with its black and white hues.
9. Priyanka Chopra-Jonas and Nick Jonas: $19,000
The six-tier expensive wedding cake at Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas's 2018 celebrity wedding was fit for the grand multi-million-dollar spectacle. The cost of the wedding cake alone is estimated at £15,000, which is equivalent to around $19,000. The large, seven-tier confection mirrored Umaid Bhawan Palace, which served as their wedding venue, and also featured an image of the couple on the crest.
10. Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III: $12,800

For actress Grace Kelly's wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco, the wedding cake was worthy of both American and European royalty. The six-tier cake included a music box as well as a cage with two turtle doves. The estimated cost of the large, decorated cake is £10,000 or about $12,800.
