If sustainability is one of the key values of your wedding, it can be difficult to find eco-friendly wedding dress options that are widely available, let alone on-trend—but all of that is about to change. One of the biggest players on the bridal fashion scene, Pronovias Group, is making a commitment to go green—and its new sustainable wedding dress options are gorgeous. The Barcelona-based, luxury bridal brand has launched #WeDoEco, a collection of sustainable wedding dresses, at the digital edition of Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. Beyond just pretty dresses, the #WeDoEco initiative is part of a long-term commitment to more environmentally sustainable practices in the bridal fashion industry.

The collection consists of 15 entirely sustainable wedding dresses—made of eco-friendly fabrics, zippers, beading, and even hangers—which are labeled as 360º Eco, and also 24 additional eco-friendly wedding dresses, in which the majority of their components are sustainable.

Also size-inclusive, the #WeDoEco options include dresses available from European sizes 32 to 64, from several of the labels under the Pronovias Group umbrella, including: Atelier Pronovias, Nicole, House of St.Patrick and White One. In 2021, Pronovias Group plans to extend #WeDoEco to all of its brands.

"In the #WeDoEco collections, we find marvelous, environmentally responsible propositions for every woman. We want to ensure that brides looking for a sustainable option for their big day are able to find their dream dress without having to compromise, by offering them all the glamour, style and elegance of dresses from the Pronovias Group," says Alessandra Rinaudo, Chief Artistic Officer of Pronovias Group.

Rinaudo, her design team and the company's purchasing and logistics teams worked with sustainability consultants like Julie Gilhart, CDO of Tomorrow Consulting, and David Allo, sustainability director of TEXFOR, for over a year to design and develop the new #WeDoEco sustainable wedding dress collections.

"Pronovias is not only the leader in the luxury bridal industry but also in seeking to establish lasting sustainability practices. The #WeDoEco initiative means that brides no longer have to sacrifice the luxury factor to be sustainable. What an exciting moment and monumental step for this incredible and powerful brand led by women," Gilhart says.

Pronovias Group is also committed to a more in-depth sustainability policy across the entire production of the collection to guarantee #WeDoEco dresses are eco-friendly down to the smallest detail. This new protocol includes using eco-certified materials, such as embroidery and beading made of recycled glass and zippers produced from recycled PET bottles, by internationally respected authorities such as GRS (Global Recycled Standard), FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and OEKO-TEX. To reduce waste, the leftover new materials will also work as new raw material for the production of future collections.

Beyond creating sustainable wedding dresses, Pronovias Group is also implementing sustainable packaging for its #WeDoEco designs: hangers made of liquid wood, labels made with recycled fabrics, hang tags made with recycled paper and organic cotton garment bags.

To address the environmental dilemma of what happens to used wedding dresses, Pronovias Group joined forces with Brides Do Good, a non-profit based in the United Kingdom dedicated to giving wedding dresses a second life, which also donates its proceeds to gender equality organizations that empower women and children. This program, under the name #MyDressxHerFuture, gives brides committed to the environment an opportunity to recycle their dresses to give them a second use for charitable purposes.
