Salma Hayek’s Husband Surprised Her With a Romantic Vow Renewal Ceremony in Bora Bora
Nearly 10 years ago, Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault married in a sequence of events across Europe, starting with a Valentine’s Day ceremony in Paris. The couple then exchanged vows before family members and friends at the famed and historical Venetian opera house Teatro La Fenice.
Their nearly decade-old marriage included another highlight this summer when Pinault, the CEO of luxury fashion conglomerate Kering, surprised the actress with a vow renewal ceremony during a family vacation in Bora Bora.
Hayek revealed photos from the sweet moment, including a rather adorable snapshot of herself tossing her bouquet and signing their marriage certificate. “The summer is coming to an end and my best moment was when my husband surprised me with a vow renewal,” Hayek wrote. “It was not what I would have chosen to wear to my wedding but I was told I was going to the spa! #luckyinlove #wedding.”
This particular wedding was more intimate than the couple’s 2009 nuptials in Venice. The lavish ceremony, which included guests like Penelope Cruz and Bono, reportedly set the pair back $3.5 million. Woody Harrelson, meanwhile, assisted in leading guests in singing “Over the Rainbow.”
Hayek and Pinault first met in 2006. A year later, they welcomed their daughter Valentina.
“I wish I knew [when I was younger] that I was going to fall crazy in love with the perfect man. I was so worried, and I dated some people I shouldn't have dated,” Hayek told Allure in 2015. “You get desperate, and you start seeing wonderful things in, like, the wrong guys. I also found some pretty good guys. But I wish I could say to myself: ‘Hey, chill out. You're going to get a great husband that's going to adore you.’ I would have saved myself a lot of personal drama.”
Hayek also opened up to The Edit in 2015 about her tips for a lasting marriage. "You're going to laugh… Find the right guy!" Hayek expressed. "That is the key, and it’s so hard because there are so few of them. It’s very important that they support you. They should never make you feel bad or insecure. What’s important in a marriage is generosity, thoughtfulness, thinking of the other person all of the time… Spend quality time together. And don’t forget over the years."
