Our Favorite NHL Wives and Girlfriends & Their Love Stories
We're not pucking around when we say some of our favorite sports love stories come from the NHL. As passionate as fans are about their favorite hockey stars, there's a growing interest in the wives and girlfriends who support them from the stands. Just like with our favorite NFL and MLB WAGs, there are so many swoon-worthy romances in the NHL too. Here, we break down our favorite hockey wives and girlfriends, including the sweetest details from their love stories with the league's top players.
Connor McDavid and Lauren Kyle
Widely regarded as one of the best athletes in the NHL right now, Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid is a newly-married man. Fresh off an appearance in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, McDavid married his longtime girlfriend Lauren Kyle just a few weeks later in Muskoka, Canada. The athlete met Kyle, an interior designer, through her cousin, who was his then-teammate on the Oilers. They got married on July 27, 2024, in what they called a "ten-day production."
Tyler Seguin and Kate Seguin
Dallas Stars right wing Tyler Seguin has amassed quite a following since he joined the league in 2010. The Canadian athlete is married to Kate (Kirchof) Seguin, and they're currently expecting their first child together. Although it's unclear how they met, they likely crossed paths in Dallas where he was playing hockey and she was attending college. After a 2022 proposal in Greece, the couple exchanged vows in the Bahamas on July 15, 2023. Just a year later, they announced that they're expecting a baby, due in January 2025.
Matthew Tkachuk and Ellie Connell
The rumors are true: 2024 Stanley Cup Final champion Matthew Tkachuk is engaged! Although the Florida Panthers forward tends to keep his love life on the down-low, his fiancée, Ellie Connell, helped him celebrate the big win all summer long. While we don't know how the couple met, they've been together since at least 2022. In the spring of 2024, photos from Connell's private Instagram account circulated the internet, showing Tkachuk proposing to the travel advisor on the bow of a boat.
Jack Hughes and Sienna Raine
New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes is one of the most popular players among young hockey fans today, and it's all thanks to TikTok. The 23-year-old athlete has a feverish fanbase online, and, unsurprisingly, many are captivated by his relationship status. Hughes went viral when he hard-launched his relationship with girlfriend Sienna Raine in April 2024. The athlete was seen skating with the model after one of his hockey games, all but confirming their romance (and breaking the hearts of many).
JT Brown and Lexi LaFleur
Romance readers, listen up: Lexi LaFleur is one NHL wife you'll definitely want to know. LaFleur has amassed a sizable following on TikTok for giving a look inside the life of a hockey WAG. She's married to JT Brown, a former right wing who played for the Lightning, Ducks and Wild. Now retired, Brown serves as a TV analyst for the Seattle Kraken. After getting married in February 2015, the couple welcomed two kids together. Now that her days as an active hockey wife are over, LaFleur has turned her sights over to writing hockey romance books, with her first due to hit shelves in March 2025.
Nick Suzuki and Caitlin Fitzgerald
Mutual friends brought Montreal Canadiens center Nick Suzuki and Caitlin Fitzgerald together. The pair met in 2016 and first connected over Instagram and Snapchat DMs. Before long, they were inseparable. After dating for a few years, the couple announced their engagement on April 24, 2024. In an interview with the Canadiens content team, Fitzgerald opened up about her SO's favorite qualities, saying, "He's super compassionate. He's super easy to get along with. Anything you throw at him, any stressful situation, any bad situation, he always knows how to handle everything, and he does it calmly."
Mitch Marner and Stephanie LaChance
A core member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Mitch Marner and his wife Stephanie LaChance share a swoon-worthy love story. The two met in elementary school, but they reconnected 10 years later when she was attending Western University and he was playing hockey for the London Knights. Marner proposed six years later, and the rest is history. The couple got married on July 29, 2023 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
Sidney Crosby and Kathy Leutner
Even if you aren't a self-proclaimed hockey fanatic, you probably know the name Sidney Crosby. The Pittsburgh Penguins star has been a mainstay in the NHL since he was selected first overall in the 2005 draft. Considering he's one of the more notoriously private athletes in the league, Crosby avoids social media and rarely speaks about his love life. We do know that he's been dating model Kathy Leutner for nearly 15 years. The couple reportedly met through mutual friends, and she's often seen cheering for him in the stands.
Trevor Zegras and Dixie D'Amelio
Trevor Zegras and Dixie D'Amelio set the internet ablaze when they first sparked dating rumors in the summer of 2023. The Anaheim Ducks center and social media influencer, both 22, were spotted together multiple times. Rumors hit a fever pitch when D'Amelio appeared on the Plan Bri Uncut podcast with Brianna Chickenfry, where she giggled when talking about dating a hockey player. The two confirmed their romance by attending Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin's infamous Fourth of July party in the Hamptons in 2024.
Wayne Simmonds and Crystal Corey
Nicknamed "Wayne Train," Wayne Simmonds is one of the most prolific players from the 2010s. He held stints on a number of teams in the NHL, including the Kings, Flyers, Predators, Devils, Sabres, and Maple Leafs. Known to be a fighter, Simmonds retired as a Flyer in 2024. "I had a great career. It was the best time I've ever had in my life," he said. "Right now, it's family time." Simmonds is married to Crystal Corey, whom he exchanged vows with at the Four Seasons Toronto on June 30, 2018. Together, they share two daughters and a son.
Leon Draisaitl and Celeste Desjardins
Oilers left wing Leon Draisaitl had a lot to celebrate in the summer of 2024. Although he fell just short of the Stanley Cup Final, he did secure something better: a fiancée! The German athlete proposed to Canadian actress Celeste Desjardins while on vacation in Mallorca, Spain, in July 2024. The two had been dating for five years.
Jonah Gadjovich and Allison Gadjovich
If you've found yourself on #HockeyTok, you probably know Allison Gadjovich. The content creator, who's married to Florida Panthers player Jonah Gadjovich, gives an inside look at the life of a hockey wife on social media. The couple got married on July 17, 2021, and welcomed twins in May 2024—mere weeks before Gadjovich would go on to win the Stanley Cup with his team. The proud parents celebrated by placing their babies inside the cup, which went viral online. "It's incredible," the hockey star told reporters of the sweet moment. "It's just a special feeling that we'll carry the rest of our lives. We'll look back on this 20 years from now and it'll be incredible."
William Karlsson and Emily Ferguson
We love when NHL wives and Bachelor Nation cross over. You might recall Emily Ferguson, who was one-half of the Ferguson Twin duo that appeared on Ben Higgins' season of The Bachelor. Emily went on to marry William Karlsson, a center for the Vegas Golden Knights. The couple met when Ferguson slid into the athlete's DMs, and they've been "inseparable" ever since. After their December 2020 engagement, they got married in July 2022. (Fun fact: Their wedding took place one month after her twin sister's, who married fellow hockey player Oula Palve.) Their son Beckham was born in May 2023, and they're currently expecting their second boy.
Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood
Did you know that Carrie Underwood is an NHL WAG? This pop culture fun fact is totally true. The American Idol-winner-turned country super star married Mike Fisher in 2010. Though he's now retired, Fisher played for the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators throughout his 19-year career. The power couple met backstage at one of Underwood's concerts in 2008. They wed two years later, and share two sons together: Isaiah and Jacob.
K'Andre Miller and Addison Clark
A member of the 2024 President's Trophy-winning Rangers team, K'Andre Miller joined the NHL in 2021. The defenseman is in a relationship with fitness entrepreneur Addison Clark, whom he's been dating since 2023. The pair hard-launched their relationship that summer—and since then, she's often seen cheering him on at Madison Square Garden.
Claude Giroux and Ryanne Breton
One of our favorite NHL wives is Ryanne (Breton) Giroux, who's married to Claude Giroux. The former Flyers captain and current Ottawa Senators forward got engaged to his longtime girlfriend in December 2016. They tied the knot on July 7, 2018, in New Jersey. Since then, the couple has gone on to welcome two sons: Gavin, born in August 2019, and Palmer, born in August 2021.
Jarret Stoll and Erin Andrews
Fact: Erin Andrews fell in love with an athlete! The Fox Sports sideline reporter married former NHL player Jarret Stoll in 2017. Stoll, who had stints with the Oilers, Kings, Rangers and Wild, won the Stanley Cup twice. He met Andrews during the 2012 World Series when he snuck into the dugout where she was reporting and introduced himself. The couple got married on June 24, 2017, in Big Sky, Montana, and welcomed their son, Mack, in June 2023.
